This Week's Worship Service

ORDER OF WORSHIP
FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS DAY
December 28, 2014
SILENT CONFESSION
10:00 a.m.
The beginning of the opening voluntary is a call to silent, personal meditation.
Please silence all electronic devices, as we prepare our hearts and minds to worship God.
OPENING VOLUNTARY
In Dulci Jubilo
CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE
How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heaven.
No ear may hear his coming, but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in.
arr. James Melby
(1947-2000)
INTROIT
O holy child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!
arr. R. L. Pearsall
(1795-1856)
In dulci jubilo (in sweet rejoicing),
let us our homage show!
Our heart's joy reclineth
in praesepio (in the manger);
and like a bright star shineth
Matris in gremio (in the Mother's lap).
Alpha es et O (you are the alpha and omega)!

CAROL
CALL TO WORSHIP
Minister:
People:
Minister:
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory,
the glory as of the only Son from the Father.
From his glory, have we all received grace upon grace.
No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father,
he has made him known, O come, let us adore him!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, who by the birth of your only begotten Son into the world made the true light
to dawn upon our darkness; we confess ourselves to be unworthy of this unspeakable Gift.
We have not loved you as we ought; nor have we always been loving toward one another;
kindhearted and forgiving one another, even as you have forgiven us. We have lived to
ourselves and not to you; and the good gifts you have given us, we have not used to relieve the
burdens of others. Pardon and blot out our offenses, we pray, through the love that came
down at Christmas in Jesus Christ our Lord.
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Almighty God, whose glory the angels sang when Christ was born: tell us once more the
good news of his coming; that hearing of his birth, we may believe and live in his love;
that seeing our salvation, we may rejoice and sing your praises; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.

OFFERING
The Lord be with you,
And with your spirit.
Let us pray. O Lord show thy mercy upon us,
And grant us thy salvation.
O God, make clean our hearts within us,
And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

OFFERTORY ANTHEM
Anonymous
(c. 1600)
Domine, secundum verbum tuum in pace:
Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum
Quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum:
Lumen ad revelationem gentium,
et gloriam plebis tuae Israel.
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in
peace: according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
which thou hast prepared
before the face of all people;
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles
and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto:
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever
shall be, world without end. Amen.
Nunc dimittis servum tuum,
