New Kingfisher Waterway Bridge in the City
of Lighthouse Point is Now Open to Traffic
Vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle
traffic has been restored on this
busy residential street fulfilling
FDOT District 4's commitment to
city officials that the replacement
bridge would be to open before
the Christmas holidays. All work
on the $1.2 million project that
replaced a 59-year-old off-system
bridge over the Kingfisher
Waterway is expected to be
completed in early 2015. This
project was a true partnership
between the City, FDOT and the
Broward MPO. Funding for the
project was identified by the MPO
and the District 4 Work Program
and Bridge Inspection Offices. The
city began design of the project,
and in discussions with district
staff the project transitioned to
FDOT District 4. District 4
ultimately completed the design,
let the contract and oversaw the
construction. In addition to the
new bridge, the project includes
installing new drainage, upgrading
curb and ramps to ADA
requirements, and constructing
and repairing sidewalks. Minor
repairs were also made on the
adjacent seawall and landscaping.
