This challenge, which is open to windsurfers, kite boarders, hobie catamarans and sailing dinghies, is without doubt the largest gathering of water sport enthusiasts in Africa. The race attracts leading international competitors, but is also an opportunity for all levels of expertise, juniors, family groups and leisure sailors to test their skills. Reputed to be the biggest kite and windsurfer event in Africa, over 300 entries are expected, including a large contingent of international participants. The Event: • • • • • • Uniquely open to windsurfers, kiters and catamarans. Sailed over a 20 km course from Langebaan to Saldanha. Run successfully since 1984. Attracts over three hundred participants. Host to the worlds best competitors. One of the largest kite and windsurf races in the world, undoubtedly the premier event for kite surfers and windsurfers in South Africa. Soukje Bredenkamp – undeniably SA’s speed queen and Downwind Dash regular. Former participants include: • Aaron Hadlow – 5x World Champion of Kitesurfing, • Soukje Bredenkamp – female world and SA speed sailing record holder, • Alex Cazerigues –world speed sailing record holder, and many others !
