Welcome to the City of Yuma Parks and Recreation
Department’s 2014 – 2015 Fall and Winter Activities
Guide. Our goal is to provide quality programs, activities, and facilities that we are known for, and that the
public enjoys. We strive to make it our business to
exceed our customer’s expectations. Our mission
is to provide opportunities for learning and life experiences that enhance the physical, social, cultural, and environmental well-being of our community.
As we celebrated our City’s 100th anniversary, it was
thrilling to see the thousands of people at our parks and
facilities during the Centennial events, Thank you to all
those that helped make the month of April such an incredible time for our community.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the major accomplishments
and mention the generous support from community service organizations that our
department has received over the past six months:

importance of play in our community by the KaBoom organization as a Playful City

On a national level, the City was named a Tree City USA for the seventh
•
consecutive year. Maintaining over 8,000 trees in the City system is no easy task.
With the help of our certified arborists, and the Yuma Community Tree Board, we
are able to accomplish this feat.

As part of the Centennial Celebration, the new Centennial Beach, located
•
at the West Wetlands Park, was opened and dedicated on April 10, 2014. The
Parks Division cleared the area and over 96 truckloads of beach sand were hauled
in, creating another beautiful access to the river for all to enjoy.
Tiny Tot Activities . . . . . . . . . .11
On July 18, 2014, the 32nd Street Centennial Mural was unveiled and ded•
icated. This beautiful mural was made possible through the efforts of students from
Kofa, Gila Ridge, and Yuma High schools, the Clean and Beautiful Commission,
the adHoc Public Art Committee, PARC Commission, and local artists.

The Yuma Jaycees donated $14,000 that enabled us to purchase accessible playground equipment and ground cover for the new Yuma Valley Park, located
at 3162 W. 24th Street. They also helped install the playground and other play
equipment, along with spreading and laying the accessible ground cover during
two different occasions.

as a licensed driver of an automobile should. The
earlier the rider learns the safety rules of bicycle
riding, the safer they will be. The class will focus
