2014-2015 Season
Antelope Valley College Performing Arts Theatre
As always, the faculty and staff of our Visual and Performing Arts Division, in collaboration
with local artists, have developed a diverse and exciting calendar of events for the
community to enjoy. This year we offer some brand new genres, as well as past favorites.
The events include classical music concerts performed by the college Symphonic Band
and the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra, vocal performance by the community’s
Master Chorale, and concerts by our jazz ensemble, beginning rock band, and Test Flight.

Theatre Arts
Welcome
On behalf of the Antelope Valley Community College District Board of Trustees and the
entire college community, I am pleased to announce the upcoming performing arts
season. The generous support of citizens of the Antelope Valley provided the capital
funds that made the construction of this beautiful, state-of-the-art facility possible.
We are very grateful for this support and extremely proud of this outstanding theater
complex. This year, AVC is celebrating its 85th anniversary. The calendar of performances
is a tribute to our storied history.
In our fall semester, we offer Shakespeare’s As You Like It; an intriguing production
called Noises Off; and two new productions for the holidays, “Swing Into Christmas” and
“Holiday Harmonies.”
As you can see, our calendar is full of performances that appeal to all age groups and
entertainment appetites. Please join us in our beautiful theater complex and enjoy the
compelling performances planned this year.

The Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale and the Antelope Valley College Concert Choir celebrate the
Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra’s 50th Anniversary with four great programs.
The AVSO kicks off the second half of its
first century with a program celebrating
orchestral color. Copland’s jazzy Clarinet
Concerto features Antelope Valley
College’s internationally recognized
music professor Dr. Berkeley Price.
Dvořák’s festive Carnival Overture opens
the evening, which concludes with a
musical testimony to art, national pride,
and friendship, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at
an Exhibition.
Master Chorale and Orchestra usher
in the holidays with Bach’s joyous
“Gloria” from the B-Minor Mass and
Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. The AVC
Concert Choir performs a selection
of holiday choruses. The orchestra
completes the holiday mood with
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
Winners of the 2015 AVSOMC Gail
Newby Concerto Competition
and the Antelope Valley College
Concerto Competition perform
concerto movements with
orchestra. Also on the program
is Beethoven’s monumental Fifth
Symphony, a stirring depiction of
victory over adversity.
Master Chorale and Orchestra
combine for Brahms’ touching
German Requiem. Inspired by
the deaths of his mother and
his mentor Robert Schumann,
this masterwork explores grief,
comfort, and the circle of life.
Antelope Valley College Concert
Choir performs Dobrogosz’s
ethereal Lux Aeterna.

Hidden Entropy Movement Project is a dance company that performs throughout
Southern California. With a passion to share work that opens up imaginative spaces
and teases through the web of human consciousness, the company aims
to present works created from coalescence between science and dance.
Often using theoretical physics and other relative sciences as inspiration,
we look for entry points into movement, imagination and the study of the self.
There we explore, burrow, get lost and emerge in pursuit of finding meaning
(and meaninglessness), and sharing our journey.
Join the AVC Jazz Ensemble as they usher in the holiday season with a spirited night

and jazz like you’ve never heard them before. It’s an evening the entire family will enjoy!
