FIRE In the event of a fire or emergency, The Barbican Centre is protected by an Automatic Fire alarm system. Intermittent sounders indicate that your area is on alert and you should standby to evacuate. Continuous sounders indicate that you should evacuate via the nearest fire exit. Vehicle noise should be kept to a minimum. Double parking or parking on double yellow lines is strictly forbidden at all times. HEALTH AND SAFETY Media Events Ltd Statement of Policy The organisers are committed to the provision and maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions, both at its own office premises and elsewhere for staff employed by the company, and for contractors, exhibitors and visitors, and to ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements and codes of practice. In accordance with its duty under section 2(3) of the Health & Safety at Work 1974, the company has produced the following statement of policy in respect of health & safety at premises controlled by third parties. The company has introduced procedures for working with venue operators, independent contractors and exhibitors to ensure that they are aware of their responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of all involved with any event organised by Media Events Ltd. The company will liaise with venue owners, contractors, and exhibitors as far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure that particular attention is paid to: 1. The provision and maintenance of plant and systems of work that is safe and healthy for all staff, contractors and exhibitors involved in an event or exhibition. 2. Arrangements for ensuring safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling and storage and transport of articles and substances as per current legislation. 3. The provision of information, instruction, training and supervision to ensure the health & safety at work of employees and others. 4. Maintaining the venue in a safe condition as per guidance and regulations by the venue. 5. The provision of a safe means of access to and exit from the venue. 6. The maintenance of a working environment that is safe, without risks to health and provides adequate facilities and arrangements for welfare at work. 7. The provision of safety equipment and protective clothing to provide protection from injury for those actively involved in the build and breakdown of events. 8. (All contractors must conform to his or her own company’s code of practice). To ensure that good housekeeping is maintained in all work areas, minimising hazards and allowing remaining hazards to be identified. 9. Working at height to be done in a safe manner, using suitable equipment in the approved way, e.g. steps, mobile scaffold towers, powered access equipment etc. 10. All powered equipment only to be operated by fully trained and certified personnel, e.g. cranes, forklift trucks, electric tow ropes, hydraulic access equipment. 11. Only accepted substances to be allowed on site, full compliance with the COSHH regulations is required. 12. Trailing power leads to be kept to a minimum and not cross the gangways, unless protected at source by Residual Current Device (RCD 30ma). Petrol powered equipment must not be used. 13. Prepare a written assessment of the health & safety risks of each event. 14. Ensure all company staff, exhibitors and contactors are made aware of this policy, first aid arrangements, and Fire & Evacuation procedures of each specific venue. VENUE RESTRICTIONS You must not bring, use or store any pressurised gasses into the Exhibition hall, e.g. propane or helium gas. The use of gas cookers is totally forbidden and approval must be obtained from the organisers for the use of cooking with electricity. Nothing may be attached in any way (eg nailed, screwed, taped) to the main fabric of the building or any of the fixtures and fittings. On-site painting or wet decoration is prohibited, except with prior permission. The foyers are not suitable areas for heavy items. Average weight loading is 488kg/m2 (100lb/ft2). Any exhibit over this weight must be discussed in advance. Please contact the organisers if you wish to use any special effects, such as lasers, smoke machines etc. Any exhibitors who identifies that they will be involved in hazardous activities will be required to provide the Organisers with a complete schedule and set of plans. Large items of waste material may be disposed of in the compactor at the rear of the exhibition hall during build-up and breakdown periods, these machines must only be operated by authorised users. However, it should be noted that these compactors are unable to dispose of some stand fitting materials including: chipboard, blockboard, timber, metal or composite items. A charge will be made for the disposal of any such materials. SMOKING The organiser and venue operates a “NO SMOKING” policy in all areas. STAND INSPECTIONS Stand Inspections will be conducted by the organisers before the show opening on Thursday 12th February 2015, to check for stability of exhibits and conformity of any electrical goods on display. STAND ELECTRICS Fluorescent strip lighting is provided to all stands as follows: One strip on stands up to 12 square metres Two strips on stands over 12 sq. metres Additional Lighting and sockets can be ordered by completing the ELECTRICAL ORDER FORM 3 included with this manual SOCKETS: No more than one exhibit may be connected to a 13amp plug and no more than one plug is permitted per socket. Adaptors are not permitted. However, system multi-points with 4 outlets may be used provided the total loading does not exceed the wattage of the socket ordered/provided. Multi-points must not be connected from adjacent multipoints. All power to exhibition stands is switched off half an hour after the close of the show.
