WEATHER SPOTLIGHT
with Meteorologist Rob Martin
A freezing-rain advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. today.
Some light freezing rain is possible this morning before
turning to rain by noon. Amounts should be light, but surfaces initially will be cold from the recent chill, so some
icing is possible, especially on lightly traveled roads,
driveways, bridges and overpasses. Temperatures will rise to above freezing around noon and
the rain should taper off by evening. This also will primarily
be a freezing rain/rain event in the higher elevations, but
could end as some lingering light snow tonight. Breezy conditions will develop tonight
and lows will be in the mid-20s. High pressure takes control for the remainder of the week and keeps the precipitation threat suppressed to the south, but temperatures will be seasonably cold through
Friday. The next chance for snow or rain will be toward the end of next weekend.
Weather fact of the day: On this date in 1985, a record snowstorm struck south
Texas. Palm trees in San Antonio were blanketed with more than a foot of snow. It was
more snow than had ever been received in an entire winter season there. Jan. 14 to 20
