Board of Directors and Staff
BOARD PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
At the end of 2012, I promised I would have
fantastic things to report for 2013. I’m happy
to say that through the hard work of all of the
United Way staff and volunteers, I can deliver on
that promise.
One of the most exciting endeavors involved a
Task Force that focused on the next step in the
ever evolving Community Investment process.
This group laid out a plan to create a Vision
Council which will work with the community
to create a shared vision for the future. From
this shared vision, initiatives will be identified using best practices
from other communities and organizations. The work on this task
force will continue through the next year and is expected to be fully
implemented in the funding cycle beginning 2016.
The Community Investment teams were very busy again this
year, reviewing grant proposals from more than 30 programs in
Laramie County. It is always amazing to see all the ways we are
connected and how many people are part of something greater
than themselves. The Teams take on the incredibly difficult job of
determining where to invest the dollars raised by United Way and the
City of Cheyenne and Laramie County’s 5th penny dollars.
It is clear that United Way continues to create opportunities to bring
real change to community conditions. We had a great campaign,
once again showing the generosity of the Community and the belief
in the opportunity for change. A total of $1,138,606 was raised in
2013.
I am truly honored to be a part of everything United Way does and
stands for in our Community. Thank you to everyone who gives of
their resources, be it time or money, to support the work of United
Way.

Leadership Recognition
2013 CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIRS
2013 UNITING OUR COMMUNITY AWARD
Each year the Uniting our Community Award recognizes one
organization that exemplifies the United Way spirit in Laramie
County. These companies show us how to LIVE UNITED.
Drs. Bob Prentice & Sandra Surbrugg
Bob, pediatrician at the Cheyenne
Children’s Clinic, and Sandra, dermatologist
at the Cheyenne Skin Clinic, have lived in
Cheyenne for more than 35 years.
Bob came to Cheyenne in 1973 after 3
years in the US Air Force. He also spent
three years at the American Academy of
Pediatrics in Chicago.
Sandra was a lifelong resident of Lamar,
CO until coming to Cheyenne in 1975. After attending medical school
and completing a residency in dermatology in Denver, she opened her
dermatology practice in 1988.
Community service has always been a “must” with both spending time
as presidents of the local hospital medical staffs and on boards in the
community.
The honoree is chosen for their high level of participation in United
Way and in our community. We consider their volunteer hours,
financial commitment, and leadership role within Laramie County.
This year we were pleased to honor Spradley Barr Motors.
Spradley Barr’s contributions to United Way include holding an
annual pacesetter campaign (providing a corporate gift as well
as having participation from more than 70 employees); Diamond
level corporate sponsor; car voucher sponsor since the program’s
inception; partner for the last two years in the annual community
matching challenge; and a strong commitment to volunteerism with
Bob Womack and Steve Secrest as past board members and Steve
co-chairman of a community investment team.
Pat & Renee Ashworth
Pat and Renee own Express Employment
Professionals in Cheyenne and Laramie.
Lifelong residents of Billings, they moved to
Missoula in 2001 due to a job transfer. Renee
worked for Express Employment office in
Missoula where her passion for helping people
succeed grew. Before entering the staffing
world, she managed a women’s clothing store
and a fabric store.
Pat worked in the printing business for over 20 years. After leaving
the printing world he worked for a microfilming company establishing
the eastern Montana market before tranferring to Missoula to run the
operation there.
After purchasing the franchise and moving to Cheyenne in 2007, Pat
and Renee immediately became involved in the Cheyenne community
where they have served on boards and committees for Kiwanis, Greater
Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, the local SHRM Chapter, and United
Way of Laramie County.
Bob Womack, Spradley Barr Motors
Vice President, accepted the award
on behalf of the organization and its
employees.
