SUCCESSFUL LIGHT SOLUTIONS – LED IN CAR SHOWROOMS Light makes brands a memorable experience 2 3 E-CORE LED – Perfect Light for Architecture, Product Display and Ambience Weather its world staged products, high quality work light, or a relaxed shopping atmosphere – especially in areas of professional shops and showroom lighting, light must fulfil many different and extremely demanding tasks, from general to accent lighting. To this end, Toshiba has developed an extensive range known as E-CORE LED Lighting. Light quality and efficiency The E-CORE LED lights and lamps range impress with quality and efficiency. With a maintenance-free life span of up to 60,000 hours, and consistent light quality, they are the ideal solution for large-scale showrooms, such as in the automotive sales industry, with high standards for lighting quality, cost reduction and sustainability. The large selection of colour temperatures, beam angles and controllability of the LEDs not only offer spatial and staging flexibility, but also sets new standards in relation to brilliance and colour rendering. Variety of resolutions within a product family Apart from the technological and economical advantages, in the commercial sector, the design of the lighting system also plays an important role. Here too, our E-CORE LED range fulfils all expectations. Fixtures and lamps form a harmonious portfolio which stands out due to its application specific variety and the consistent design language. Formal reduction enables perfect integration into a brand specific overall appearance. From reception, to the showroom, right up to new car handover – the Toshiba product family has the lighting solution for every area of application and enables consistent lighting for all spatial and functional requirement profiles. Experience and responsibility Toshiba recognised the potential of LED lighting very early on. We see the use of innovative and efficient technologies 4 as a chance to continually improve our quality of life. This is the key to our company philosophy and an integral part of an environmental program that was started in 2008. We take one step after another in order to realise our vision of improving global energy efficiency by reducing energy consumption by a factor of ten until 2050. We follow a systematic approach to our business, in 2010 Toshiba stopped manufacturing lightbulbs in Japan, as these consume up to 80 % more energy than LEDs. Future-orientAted lighting solutions Our long time dedication is a benefit for builders, architects and planners as well as for specialists shops and retailers, and last but not least for everyone who experiences lighting everyday. For all of them, we are continually refining our entire product range of lights and lamps. In this way, we continually create new, future-orientated lighting solutions for the rapidly changing world in which we work and live. 5 Bright, customised and application-orientated In this brochure, we explain how tailor-made lighting solutions can be implemented in car showrooms, with the extensive E-CORE LED product range. Our references, which we will present to you on the following pages, are shining examples. Reception Back office Advice Lounge Showroom / car roadway The purpose of a car showroom is to display the cars, if you forgive my play on words “in the best possible light”. Our aim is to create an atmosphere that achieves that, whilst meeting the exacting brand standards of the client and ensuring a comfortable, welcoming environment for the customer and staff. It’s about creating an environment that customers are happy to stay in, staff are happy to work in and in which the cars are properly presented. How is this aim implemented? It is important to realise that an optimal lighting installation is about the light emitted, not the lights, people don’t go into car showrooms to look at lights. It is also about the quality of the product and the full life cost of the project. We choose Toshiba LED products because in our view they win on all these points. They provide the best of light and deliver on full life costs, energy savings and reliability. What effect does lighting have on the sale? Exhibition / outside area Promotions area 6 7 There is no doubting that properly lit and displayed products will sell better than poorly lit and poorly displayed products. One of the greatest benefits of our design using Toshiba LED products is that “what the customers see is what they get”. The challenge has always been to show the cars in the true colour and accentuate the cars features and design, as we say it’s “CARS IN HD”. “Qualitative lighting creates a good atmosphere” bowker motor group, BMW preston, England Founded in Lancashire in 1919, the Bowker Motor Group quickly developed into one of the leading transport specialists in the UK. The dealings of the established family company are characterised by integrity and enthusiasm for the automotive world. Paul bowker Manager, Bowker Motor Group, BMW Preston What is the difference in presenting the cars with the new lighting solution? The biggest change is the colour rendering. With the old lighting, it was not so dynamic. The depth of the colours in the painted surface is visible. There are many black and silver cars; now we are bringing a little more colour into the showroom, which produces more interest to the customers because they can experience them “live”. When they see the colours with a deep shine in front of them, they think: “That’s the colour I want” and that's what they get. How important is low energy consumption in a car showroom? The lights are turned on all day, and some of them all night too – so reduced consumption is very important. With the low maintenance costs, it is a clear advantage which helps us to save costs. Is the right atmosphere important for the purchase behaviour of the customers? Absolutely. Warm, relaxing light ensures that the customer stays longer, and relaxes with a cup of coffee. That is why there are extra lounges in the sales areas. Most customers do not visit car showrooms very often, so it is important to spend this valuable time as pleasantly as possible. 8 9 In the course of a reorganisation of the sales areas, they used LED lighting everywhere, to create an optimum sales and working atmosphere in all areas. The improved colour rendering, brilliance and presentation quality increases the turnover. “Our vehicles require a dynamic lighting concept” richard byrd Group IT / Production Manager, Halliwell Jones, BMW Warrington Did the conversion from classic lighting to LED involve a great deal of effort? No, only minor changes were carried out on our electrical installations. Due to the conversion, new and used cars are now presented together, which gives us more flexibility, as today BMW offers one of the youngest and largest ranges of all car manufacturers. The new “road concept” enables us to show all of these cars. Do the customers notice the LED lighting? Yes, particularly in the evening, you can see the difference. The lighting attracts attention to our showroom, which is on a busy road. We have customers who have driven by first, and then come a week later and tell us how good it looks. It is also visible during the day, but in the evening, the lighting is simply fantastic. Halliwell Jones, BMW Warrington, England All locations of Halliwell Jones BMW specialise in excellent customer service. The aim is to build up long-term relationships due to friendly and competent service. As “Dealer of the Year”, this must be proven every day. Would you say that LEDs fit in with the innovative concept of BMW? The high technical challenges faced by BMW find there equivalent in the Toshiba LED lighting concept which imitates the innovative i models of BMW perfectly. With the highest efficiency and life span, you can save up to 70% on energy and maintenance costs, and at the same time fulfil all the standard requirements. 10 Yes, both go hand in hand, LEDs emit a fantastic light and are energy efficient at the same time. Both are based on the same philosophy and quality. This is why BMW supports us in this area because they know that in this way, their products will be optimally presented. 11 “LED LIghting expands our showroom outside” Gehlert car Showroom Freiburg, Germany In the Gehlert car showroom, in North Freiburg, the car brands Volkswagen and Audi have been united for more than 5 decades. It has the highest trader status within the Volkswagen organisation, which requires the fulfilment of high standards and performance criteria. The functions of a modern car showroom are embedded in 15,000 m² of park-like grounds, which gives the car showroom a particular charm, and unmistakeable character. This attractive outside area is actively used for the presentation of the most diverse models. An open showroom has emerged, which is always open for customers. Harry Gold Sales Manager, VW Gehlert, Freiburg How important is the outside area for your car showroom? We see the outside area as non-verbal advertising. We have a combination of staging with coloured light and spotlights mounted on the building, these have the task of producing optimum base light. Why do you need good base lighting in the outside area? If customers come to us in the evening, we must not have any dark areas. That would scare our customers: if they go from a light zone into a dark one, they stop and turn around again. That is why we equipped the entire outside area with Toshiba LED floodlights. Can you say that it is an expansion of your sales area? Yes of course because we also present our vehicles outside, and view the presentation as a whole. Our park-like facilities create an ambience that appeals to the customers. The feel-good effect is always a good basis for the sales discussion. 12 13 Impressive light for presentation and sales Ceiling recessed luminaires The quality range for the automotive sector European standards such as EN 12464-1 define the quality criteria of lighting and ensure the high light quality in work places. Requirements on the luminaire, such as, luminous flux, UGR values, Colour temperature and dimmability which the downlight and ceiling grid lights from Toshiba fulfil to perfection. The Toshiba products ensures optimum support for the relevant task in the shop and in the showroom. Apart from the differentiated lighting of the various presentation and sales areas, the equal and efficient lighting of adjacent areas also plays an important role. In access zones, it enables secure orientation and visual guidance for customer and employees on the inside and outside areas. Our DC capable lights offer additional safety potential since they ensure the required brightness in emergency operation.
