* Students are not to arrive on campus before 8:30 a.m. Students who are dropped
off or not picked up within thirty (30) minutes before/after school may be assigned a
detention unless prior arrangements (ELP, school sponsored clubs, serving detentions,
etc. are to be dropped off no more than 10 minutes before activity starts) are made with
school personnel.
* FCA will be meeting in the cafeteria this Wednesday morning from 8:20 – 8:40 a.m.
All are welcome for a devotional time and refreshments.
* All students who have Physical Education this semester will need to bring warm athletic clothing to gym until the temperatures begin to rise later in the school year.
* Plan ahead for Science field trip on April 10th, 2015 - If your student has Ms. Dellert,
Mr. St. John or Ms. Pendergrass, please see the attached Busch Gardens Physics Day
informational flyer for the field trip details. This field trip is not for all science classes,
only for the teachers indicated.
* Couch to 5k Training: Every Tuesday and Thursday the entire Jaguar Nation
Family (Parents, students, faculty and staff) are invited to join us in preparation for the
Ties and Tennis Shoes 5k this December. This activity will run from 3:45 to 4:15.”
* PARENT VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED - Parent volunteers are needed to meet

* We are excited to announce that TMFMS is planning to travel on an educational tour to Barcelona and Madrid, Spain in June 2015 or June 2016! The invitation
to travel with us is extended to students in grades 6-8 as well as other parents and siblings. Our trip is scheduled for the summer (a few days after school is out). The trip
will be conducted through EF (Education First) Tours. TMFMS has had wonderful success with EF and previous trips to France, Costa Rica, China, and England.

* The Florida League of Mayors and the Florida League of Cities are sponsoring a
statewide essay contest titled “If I were elected Mayor . . .”A required subject taught in
all Florida public middle schools, civics education is vital to encouraging meaningful
public participation. This contest is offered to all seventh-grade students in-public
schools.
Entries must be postmarked by January 16, 2015. Essays will be judged by a committee comprised of members from of the Florida League of Mayors Board of Directors.
Three statewide winners will be selected.
Winners will receive a joint resolution from the Florida League of Mayors and the Florida League of Cities to be presented by their mayor at a council/commission meeting of
their municipality’s choosing. Prizes are as follows:

The 1st place winner will receive a $100 gift card & a chance to be “mayor” for a
day.
•
The 2nd place winner will receive a $50 gift card.
•
The 3rd place winner will receive a $25 gift card.
* “What can I find on the PCS Family Engagement APP? The PCS Family Engagement Mobile APP will provide parents access to extended classroom opportunities,
family engagement tips and opportunities and parent “How To” videos. There will also
be information about parent workshop schedules, parent peer support, and information

Important Health Tips
As we enter the time of year when respiratory illness become more prevalent, please
remember these health tips and share them with your staff, parents, and students:
* Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
* Avoid close contact such as kissing, hugging, and sharing cups or eating utensils with
people who are sick.
* Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt sleeve – NOT with your hands.
* Clean and disinfect all frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs. Increase the frequency of cleaning if someone is sick.
* Stay home when you are sick, and encourage parents to keep their students
home if they show signs of illness. This is the best way to prevent the spread of
illnesses.
Following these tips can help to slow the spread of many illnesses – common cold, flu,
enterovirus, and other pathogens that can lead to disease.

Pinellas County Schools Homework Helpline, (727) 547-7223, offers free homework help for students in grades 1-12.The Homework Helpline is staffed by teachers certified in math, science, language arts and social studies. Help is available from 5 to 8 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday, on all school days, except when there
is no school the following day.

Kudos!
The 8th Annual Thurgood Marshall GeoBee, sponsored by the National Geographic
Society, was held last night. Shannon Menke won the competition. Mary Margaret
Blackett was the runner up. All of the students should be congratulated for their
excellent performance. They are listed below.
I am especially grateful to Ms. Giordano, Mr. Barber, Ms. Cemberci, and Ms. Ford
who gave up their evening to moderate, score, and judge the GeoBee.
