PSSS Testing Info for Non-CCSD Applicants

Dear Magnet Applicants,
Thank you for applying to one or more of the Cobb County Magnet Programs. The next step in
the process is one of the following:

For CCSD or private school students who took the Readistep this year– your next step
will be checking the application portal in February regarding admission decisions. You
do not need to read any further in this email.

For non-CCSD students (private school, homeschool, out of district) and CCSD students
who missed the Readistep - your next step is taking the admissions exam on January
17th at 9:00 am at Campbell High School. Please read below if you fall into this
category.
If you are receiving this email, you are scheduled to take the admissions exam on January
17th. If you believe this is an error, please contact Mr. Daniel Penick at Campbell High School,
[email protected] or 678-842-6856.
A special administration of the Preliminary SAT® (PSAT) will be used as the admissions test;
however, Cobb County magnet programs score these tests, so the results are not equivalent to
College Board PSAT scores. Specifically, we do NOT deduct ¼ point for incorrect answers;
instead, the total number of correct answers is converted to a percentile ranking for each
multiple-choice section of the test: verbal, mathematics, and writing. PSAT review materials
may be obtained at your local library or bookstore as well as on the College Board website,
http://www.collegeboard.com. If a student requires any accommodations for testing, please
contact Mr. Daniel Penick at Campbell High School, [email protected] or 678-8426856. Documentation prior to the test will be required.
On the day of the test, you should bring with you two blue or black pens, multiple sharpened
pencils with erasers, a watch, and a calculator. Approved calculators include four-function
calculator, scientific calculator, and graphing calculator. Calculators NOT permitted include:
pocket organizer, hand-held or laptop computer, electronic writing pad or pen input device,
calculator with a QWERTY (typewriter-like) keypad, calculator with paper tape, calculator that
makes noises or "talks", and calculator that requires an outlet. Students will not be allowed to
share calculators with other students. Basic calculators will be available at the testing location.
Students are permitted to carry a cell phone, but it must remain OFF throughout the test.
We will begin testing promptly at 9:00 AM, and no one will be allowed entrance after the test
has begun.
If the Cobb County School District is closed on Friday, January 16th for inclement weather, or if
inclement weather moves in, please check the magnet schools’ websites for further
information.
Parents and students: Note the following drop-off and pick-up guidelines: Failure to follow
will result in major congestion in and around Campbell High School.
This schedule will help ensure a safe and efficient drop-off procedure. Everyone arriving at once
will result in LONG waits, so we recommend students arrive according to the following
schedule:

Last names A-M drop off between 8:00 and 8:15.

Last names L-Z drop off between 8:30 and 8:45.
Drop-off is in the Stadium Parking Lot. From Atlanta Road (via Windy Hill Rd or Paces Ferry Rd),
turn onto Fleming Street and proceed straight until you arrive in the football stadium parking
lot. Students will enter the building at either of the entrances available in the parking lot. Once
you have completed drop off, continue right to circle the parking lot and proceed back to
Fleming St.
The exam will conclude around 12:00 Noon. Parents should WAIT in the stadium parking lot
for their children. THERE IS NO CELLPHONE SERVICE IN THE TESTING BUILDING. Students will
activate their phones and contact you as they exit the building. Exam rooms may release at
different times, but all rooms should dismiss by 12:30.
