It is caused by high blood sugar which over me damages the skin, nerves and blood vessels in the foot. You may loose the feeling in your foot and will not be able to feel small cuts, scrapes, blisters or pressure sores. Over me these minor problems turn into open sores called ulcers and get infected. The damaged blood vessels slow blood flow which slows healing. The foot ulcer when infected will have constant pain, redness, warmth and swelling and pus and will not heal. With any of these signs you must see your doctor. Anbodies are usually needed to treat the infecon and if the infecon is deep in the bone or muscle you will need IV anbiocs. Any dead or infected ssue will need to be removed and surgery on the arteries might help the blood flow. You should stay off your foot as much as possible and keep it elevated. This problem can be prevented by controlling your blood sugar which prevents damage to blood vessels and nerves. You should check your feet every day for sores and cuts and have your doctor check your feet once a year. Keep your feet clean, dry and warm and always wear shoes that fit well to avoid blisters. Don’t go barefoot as this increases injury risk. Trim your toenails along the shape of the toe and file your nails to remove sharp edges. If you have nerve damage do not trim your nails yourself. You should see your doctor or a podiatrist (foot doctor) for even minor procedures. Also please do not smoke! ~Dr. Dan H om es t ea d Vil lag e Rev iew January 2015 Page 8 “No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.” ~~Maya Angelou HOMESTEAD VILLAGE OF PENSACOLA MANAGEMENT TEAM Ann Brown Deidre Gonzales Navarro LPN Casey Ballard LPN Michelle Soulier-Cook LPN Cathy Rodgers Millie Schafer Donna Wilson Jon Hill Sarah Taylor Todd Burson Ronda Boothe Zandra Bohanan Rosita Sewell General Manager - 941-5000 Administrator - 941-5000 Resident Care Coordinator - 941-5081 Resident Care Coordinator - 941-5080 Marketing & Admissions Coordinator - 941-5000 Senior Administrative Assistant - 941-5000 Resident Services Secretary - 941-5000 Food Service Manager - 941-5036 Food Service Assistant - 941-5036 Maintenance Supervisor - 941-5043 Environmental Services Supervisor - 941-5071 Activity Specialist - 941-5066 Special Needs Activity Specialist - 941-5083 Resident Birthdays Employee Birthdays 04 04 06 06 07 07 09 10 11 14 19 19 20 20 22 22 24 24 24 29 05 11 13 14 14 16 18 20 29 HELGA DONATO MARY GOLDEN KAREN PANDOLFI DOROTHY AILEEN RIDER AGNES EZELL MYRTICE HOLMES JACK SARRICKS ROBERT ABBOTT RUTH RICHIE JOHNNA HARRIS JEWELL BRADFIELD LOU SCOTT GAIL KELLEY DERLIA FRADY BARBARA ALDIERI BETTY FLANAGAN BILLY RAY PRICE VELMA BRADLEY BARBARA DOUGLAS NANCY WARD Michelle Evans-French Katie Galligan Karen Richardson Annie Jackson Darmekia Smiley Debra Higgins John Nickell Tammy Burger Tina Haas New Year’s Reflections A BIG Welcome to our Newest Residents Dennis Bakos Valerie Mason Looking back on the months gone by, As a new year starts and an old one ends, We contemplate what brought us joy, And we think of our loved ones and our friends.
