She was born in the Philippines and followed her parents to Japan. Since she came she faced a lot of problems with the Japanese language and Japanese systems but also had great experiences here in Inuyama, which she shared with us today. Q: Katchena, can you tell us what you did since you came to Inuyama and what your future plans are? A: Before I came here, I already studied up to the second year of college in the Philippines. But due to the difference in the educational system, I thought this was not acknowledged. I thought I could not go to college without finishing senior high school here. I did not want to stay at home and do nothing, so I started working in a factory. This was hard but also boring work and I felt really depressed being there. I have always been independent and therefore could not handle being that helpless to not even understand simple orders from my supervisor. That is why I quit, started learning Japanese and entered senior high school while working. Recently, I learned that I have a chance to go to college if I pass the JLPT N1 exam. So now I'm studying at a Japanese language school, to get into university or find a better job. Q: This sounds like a hard way to achieve your goals. But even though you struggled with different things here, you still seem to be so positive. Do you have any advice for young foreigners coming to Japan? A: In my case, my parents could not speak Japanese and did not know the system here, so it was necessary for me to learn Japanese. And that would be my advice to everyone who comes to Japan: Even if language schools are expensive, go to an international center in your town, ask for help and try to get into a language school - even if for just once a week. You get better job opportunities when you speak Japanese and you will be able to become a part of the local community somehow. Q: What do you think is a good learning technique for Japanese? A: Just try to talk to people. Fortunately there were no other Filipinos in my class at senior high school for which I was forced to talk in Japanese. And because of one girl who was really nice to me even at times I could not express myself, I learned a lot and felt comfortable to speak. Q: What was your best experience in Japan so far? And what do you like about Inuyama? A: I worked at Kanishis International Center and taught Tagalog to primary school students as well as helping teach Japanese. My Japanese improved so much there and I learned a lot besides that.I really like Inuyama and do not want to move anywhere else. To me, Inuyama’s nature is great. I like to go for a walk to Narita-san or Inuyama Castle and I think, there is no prettier thing than the cherry blossoms close to the river here, right around the corner from Freude. 6 The Inuyama Newsletter In case you get sick on a holiday Holiday(daytime)Clinic ▼Place:Inuyama City Holiday Emergency Clinic Add:1-70,Goromaru Higashi,Inuyama City TEL:0568-62-8100 ▼Consultation hours:8:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. , 1:30 p.m.- 4:15 p.m. Holiday(night-time)Clinic ▼Place:Please see the following list of duty clinics ▼Consultation hours:5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m ■For more information, contact the inuyama City Hall’s Health Promotion Section (Shimin Kenko Kan) TEL:0568-63-3800 Internal Medicine M 1 2 3 D Name of Medical Institution 1 Surgery TEL Location Inuyamaeki nishi Byoin 61-2017 Takamicho 2 Murakami Naika 62-2201 Maruyama 3 Ando Iin 61-0316 Nishishin michi 4 Ando Clinic 62-8881 Tonoji 11 Ando Clinic 62-8881 Tonoji 12 Yoshida Naika Clinic 62-9222 Higashima tsumotocho 18 Miyazaki Seikeigeka・ Geka ・Naika 68-0461 Semiya 25 Midori Shinryojo 67-3311 Chojamachi 1 Kimura Naika 67-0008 Jonan 8 Okabe Iin 62-7121 Uchida 11 Itsuki Clinic 62-3101 Kamisaka 15 Itatsu Naika Clinic 67-6333 22 Miyata Iin 1 8 Name of Medical Institution TEL Location Matsumura Clinic 61-1488 Kamisaka Ishihara Geka (Surgery) 62-2855 Hashizume kami Higashimatsu motocho Kobayashi Jibiinkoka (ENT) Mother Clinic Happiness (Obstetrics gynecology) Takuya Seikeigeka (Orthopedics) 61-3154 63-4103 Tonoji 69-1800 Kobari Matsumura Clinic 61-1488 Kamisaka Kobayashi Ganka (Ophthalmology) 62-7278 Fujimicho Ishihara Geka (Surgery) 62-2855 Hashizume kamii 63-4103 Tonoji 61-0200 Matsumoto cho Sato Byoin 67-7660 Shimodainichi Hongo Yamamoto Hifuka Clinic 62-6855 Takamicho 67-5566 Inaba Kuwabara Clinic 61-1118 Tonoji Heart Clinic Sawada 62-5556 Umetsubo 67-1134 Ninomiya danchi Sumire Naika Clinic 68-0025 Wakamiya 62-8811 Maehara 15 Inuyamaeki nishi Byoin 61-2017 Takamicho 68-3104 Narumi minami 21 Murakami Naika 62-2201 Maruyama 61-7311 Senshojicho 22 Ando Iin 61-0316 Nishishin michi Niwa Jibiinkoka (ENT) 67-6868 Hotta 29 Ando Clinic 62-8881 Tonoji Kobayashi Jibiinkoka (ENT) 61-3154 Higashimatsu motocho 犬山ニュースレター Mother Clinic Happiness (Obstetrics gynecology) Miyata Ganka (Ophthalmology) Kawamura Seikeigeka (Orthopedics) (Dermatology) Funabiki Clinic Satoshi Ganka Clinic (Ophthalmology) Takeuchi Seikeigeka Clinic (Orthopedics) 発行 犬 山 市 役 所 〒484‐8501 愛知県犬山市大字犬山字東畑 36 編集 犬山国際交流協会 〒484‐0086 愛知県犬山市松本町 4-21 犬山国際観光センター『フロイデ』内 TEL:(0568) 61-1000 FAX:(0568) 63-0156 E-mail: [email protected] Homepage http://www.gld.mmtr. or.jp/~i-news/ inuyama newsletter 検索 STAFF:Kazuro Kusakabe、Hiroko Oda、Sally Wakasugi、Yoriko Nakamura、Satoru Ito、Hidetomo Uchimura、 Emanuele Ito、Haruka Yamada、Hiroshi Ito、Tsuneaki Iwata、Chizuko Hishikawa、Marisabel Almer、 Maria João Antunes、Nancy Oshiro、Ricardo Arturo、Jun Komatsu、Risa Yamamori、Lucimare Terada、 Ikeda Lilian Izumi、末石ブルノ、柿原エジソン孝一、田原カルロス、屋良マルコス、川瀬ラリサ、 Prata Gigele Cristina、Wu Huixing、Misako Harita、Kazue Fukuda、He Xiao yan、Hiroko Hashimoto、 Ma Xian Yuan、Virgie Ishihara、Margie Ieda、Senda Lizabeth、Ethyl Oshima、Katchena Demdam、 Virginia Yumi Oshima、Laura Johnen
