Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority FLOATING SOLAR PV Project Doughty Pond Reservoir Pre-Proposal Conference January 6, 2015 Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority We provide drinking water to Atlantic City We pump an average of 13 million gallons per day We maintain two surface reservoirs We maintain twelve wells Over 150 miles of transmission lines We are the winner of multiple awards for Taste and Quality! www. ACMUA.ORG New Jersey Energy Master Plan We are committed to the New Jersey Energy Master Plan goal to achieve 22.5% of the State’s electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020. Solar Act of 2012 • Ended large scale solar installations on NJ open space and farmland. • Encouraged development on closed Landfills and Brownfields. (Engineering and site prep costs $$$) What’s left are large rooftops and FLOATING SOLAR! Background • Floating Solar - 1st developed in Japan • Floating Pontoons – no metal contact with water • Longer solar productivity on cooler surface • Can withstand winds up to 85 mph • Reduces algae and biota growth in reservoirs • Reduces evaporation/water loss in reservoirs Floating Solar PV Systems Floating Solar Panels • Some models actually turn to face the sun to deliver increased productivity Doughty Pond Reservoir Approximately 255 acres Average Depth 8 ft. Latitude: 39.4301169 Longitude: -74.521542 View off of Dam Reservoir Conditions • Compliance and oversight by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection • Total site is fenced with locked access/egress • No public access permitted • Provides raw water for treatment via gravity • East entrance at dam provides sizable staging area for installation. • Video surveillance available (repairs needed) Security Camera Locations Video & Security • Proposers are encouraged to review security installations with the ACMUA and include repairs/updates in their proposals. • ACMUA contacts for security information: – Ernest Gratz – Plant Mgr. 609/345-3315 x 310 [email protected] – Mark Hicks – Asst. Mgr. 609/345-3315 x 320 [email protected] Wholesale Energy to GRID via Atlantic City Electric Co. • Contact - ACE “Green Team” 866/634-5571 “Tundi” PE • Proposers will be responsible to assume the following costs for grid connection to Atlantic City Electric: – Inverters – Feeders – Any other components required for size and system protection Benefit to ACMUA? • Proposers encouraged to develop novel financial benefit models: – Annual Space Rental – Joint Ownership – Revenue Gain Share So what else is the ACMUA doing? Proposed FAA Technical Center Project • Floating Solar panels proposed to be built and installed on Upper Reservoir under a Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”) • FAA would option to purchase retail energy generated from the floating solar installation • The ACMUA would receive rental fees and or a portion of energy generation revenue Questions?
