TRU: What is the product that you cannot live without?
CP: HAIR SPRAY!
TRU: Describe your style of hairdressing?
CP: My style is Classic with a sexy twist. I believe in straightforward
articulate gimmick-free hair; however it must always be flattering and
beautiful. If a woman does not look pretty when I am finished, I have
not done my job!
TRU: How did you get your start in the beauty industry?
TRU: What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?
CP: I attended a vocational high school, where I studied Cosmetology.
It was hair, army or jail for me. Just Kidding! To be honest, I wanted
to attend art school in NYC and I thought working as a stylist would
help pay for art school. I loved doing hair so much; I never went to art
school. It’s so crazy, I can’t think of doing anything else. I still love it to
this day.
TRU: What piece of advice would you give other stylists trying to break
into editorial?
TRU: What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?
CP: I am proud of winning NAHA Hairstylist of the Year twice and being
a 23 time NAHA nominee. I am very proud of independently becoming
a lead hairstylist at NY Fashion Week for designers such as Jason Wu,
Jeremy Scott and Peter Som. Finally, I am most proud of the fact that
everyday I am asked to give advice via Facebook, emails and calls to
aspiring hairstylists about how to navigate their careers.
TRU: What has been the most rewarding part of being in the industry?
CP: The fact that after 27 years I still am fascinated and stimulated by
my craft. I also love all the variety of avenues that I can express myself
in as a hairstylist, educator, platform artist, mentor and
industry advocate.
TRU: What advice would you give to up and coming hairstylist?
CP: The best advice I can give is to seek out what you love about
our craft and then take advantage of them. Stalk your idols, build a
portfolio, read trade magazines, become an educator, never stop
taking classes, and most importantly make short and long term goals.
I always say you are responsible for your own success. No one can
procure it for you, not your beauty school, not your salon owner, not
your manufacturer, not your mom, not NAHA and ultimately if you don’t
know where you want to go, you most certainly will never get there.
CP: Oh, nothing I could say in public!
CP: Learn what editorial is! Editorial is basically a free expression of style,
an interpretation of current fashion. The word editorial in journalism
literally means “an article that showcases the writer’s opinion on a
timely issue “. One must become accomplished in the salon trade while
simultaneously assisting established session artists as well as develop
relationships with photographers, modeling agencies, makeup artists,
fashion stylists, small publications and assist at NY fashion week . These
contacts are the key to breaking into editorial.
TRU: You pushed the envelope with your fall 303 magazine DFW (Denver
Fashion Week) Hair Show presentation. What inspired the collection?
CP: I think our industry has become incredibly uptight, stale and
stagnant. Everyone is afraid to stand out! I wanted to act against that
apathy with this show, any chance to be a provocateur, I take. I am a
hairstylist who came into the industry to be like my idols rebels like Van
Council, Anthony Mascolo, Trevor Sorbie and Horst Rechelbacher. It
is now my responsibility to, like them, shake things up in my own way.
As for that specific show aesthetically, I wanted to cover the hair with
metal clips for an “ armored “ anti-hair look and spike the idea with
risqué S&M fashion nudity and tattooed models of all shapes races sizes
ages and sexualities. I also casted real couples that had hot chemistry.
I was surprised at how much people loved it!
TRU: What are some of the coming hair trends you think you’ll
see in 2015?
CP: Stronger geometric cuts, shorter hair and major texture
TRU: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
TRU: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
CP: Big cities, street fashion, high fashion, high art, low art, fashion
photography, pop stars, cool young people, independent thinkers,
smut boundary pushers, mavericks, smart people, architecture,
graphic design and of course Madonna!
TRU: How do you stay relevant in an industry that’s
constantly changing?
TRU: How did you get involved with Scruples?
CP: I did a collaborative shoot with Scruples and Robert Lobetta. I loved
the depth and range of the brand and especially the Pearl Retail Line.
It is high performance and broad. I use it in the salon, on set and also
for runway shows.
CP: Maybe rehab?
CP: Be out in it every day; hair shows, photo shoots, runway shows. I
guess the easiest answer is that one must never stop trying, exploring
and pushing. Pay attention!!

TRU: What is the product that you cannot live without?
CP: HAIR SPRAY!
TRU: Describe your style of hairdressing?
CP: My style is Classic with a sexy twist. I believe in straightforward
articulate gimmick-free hair; however it must always be flattering and
beautiful. If a woman does not look pretty when I am finished, I have
not done my job!
TRU: How did you get your start in the beauty industry?
TRU: What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?
CP: I attended a vocational high school, where I studied Cosmetology.
It was hair, army or jail for me. Just Kidding! To be honest, I wanted
to attend art school in NYC and I thought working as a stylist would
help pay for art school. I loved doing hair so much; I never went to art
school. It’s so crazy, I can’t think of doing anything else. I still love it to
this day.
TRU: What piece of advice would you give other stylists trying to break
into editorial?
TRU: What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career so far?
CP: I am proud of winning NAHA Hairstylist of the Year twice and being
a 23 time NAHA nominee. I am very proud of independently becoming
a lead hairstylist at NY Fashion Week for designers such as Jason Wu,
Jeremy Scott and Peter Som. Finally, I am most proud of the fact that
everyday I am asked to give advice via Facebook, emails and calls to
aspiring hairstylists about how to navigate their careers.
TRU: What has been the most rewarding part of being in the industry?
CP: The fact that after 27 years I still am fascinated and stimulated by
my craft. I also love all the variety of avenues that I can express myself
in as a hairstylist, educator, platform artist, mentor and
industry advocate.
TRU: What advice would you give to up and coming hairstylist?
CP: The best advice I can give is to seek out what you love about
our craft and then take advantage of them. Stalk your idols, build a
portfolio, read trade magazines, become an educator, never stop
taking classes, and most importantly make short and long term goals.
I always say you are responsible for your own success. No one can
procure it for you, not your beauty school, not your salon owner, not
your manufacturer, not your mom, not NAHA and ultimately if you don’t
know where you want to go, you most certainly will never get there.
CP: Oh, nothing I could say in public!
CP: Learn what editorial is! Editorial is basically a free expression of style,
an interpretation of current fashion. The word editorial in journalism
literally means “an article that showcases the writer’s opinion on a
timely issue “. One must become accomplished in the salon trade while
simultaneously assisting established session artists as well as develop
relationships with photographers, modeling agencies, makeup artists,
fashion stylists, small publications and assist at NY fashion week . These
contacts are the key to breaking into editorial.
TRU: You pushed the envelope with your fall 303 magazine DFW (Denver
Fashion Week) Hair Show presentation. What inspired the collection?
CP: I think our industry has become incredibly uptight, stale and
stagnant. Everyone is afraid to stand out! I wanted to act against that
apathy with this show, any chance to be a provocateur, I take. I am a
hairstylist who came into the industry to be like my idols rebels like Van
Council, Anthony Mascolo, Trevor Sorbie and Horst Rechelbacher. It
is now my responsibility to, like them, shake things up in my own way.
As for that specific show aesthetically, I wanted to cover the hair with
metal clips for an “ armored “ anti-hair look and spike the idea with
risqué S&M fashion nudity and tattooed models of all shapes races sizes
ages and sexualities. I also casted real couples that had hot chemistry.
I was surprised at how much people loved it!
TRU: What are some of the coming hair trends you think you’ll
see in 2015?
CP: Stronger geometric cuts, shorter hair and major texture
TRU: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
TRU: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
CP: Big cities, street fashion, high fashion, high art, low art, fashion
photography, pop stars, cool young people, independent thinkers,
smut boundary pushers, mavericks, smart people, architecture,
graphic design and of course Madonna!
TRU: How do you stay relevant in an industry that’s
constantly changing?
TRU: How did you get involved with Scruples?
CP: I did a collaborative shoot with Scruples and Robert Lobetta. I loved
the depth and range of the brand and especially the Pearl Retail Line.
It is high performance and broad. I use it in the salon, on set and also
for runway shows.
CP: Maybe rehab?
CP: Be out in it every day; hair shows, photo shoots, runway shows. I
guess the easiest answer is that one must never stop trying, exploring
and pushing. Pay attention!!

After the application is complete, Vicki uses a slide cutting technique to blend the extensions, using the
natural hair as a guide. Hotheads Extensions are varied in length, so the need for cutting aside from
