Selection Criteria CGA Criteria • 2.65 or above at the end of Year-2 or Year-3 Spring semester. Selection Criteria Total Score = 50% CGA + 20% Paper Application + 30% Interview • Our automated system will match students to a university based on your total score and your top choice of university in order of priority which has availability. You must also meet the host university’s requirements such as TOEFL/IELTS and any other specified conditions. The scoring of any particular applicant is confidential and will not be disclosed. This will not include schools which students have rejected or withdrawn from exchange. More details of this arrangement will be released at a later date to the eligible ‘no offer’ students. Students who are eligible for the clearing round, will have the option not to participate with no penalty. Students who participate but decline offers in the clearing round will be treated with the same penalty. Interview Period • Students who apply must also attend an interview to be considered for exchange. Hence, students must be available for interviews during the below periods: End January – Mid February (TBC) • Interview dates depends on the date when ARRO releases students grades. • Only students meeting the 2.65 CGA requirement who have submitted a completed application for exchange will be short-listed for interviews. • Please note that a student may be interviewed for exchange but there is no guarantee that they will go on exchange. This will depend on the applicant’s total score ranking, host university requirements, and availability of spaces. Interview Format • The interview format will be conducted in English and consists of 3 parts including: • Part A: Self-Introduction (1 min) • Part B: English Communication Skills & Group Interaction (4 min) • Part C: Follow-up Questions for Applicants • Usually, the interviews are conducted with 2 interviewers in groups of 4-5 students and lasts around 30 minutes. Students can only select one HSS course. Language Requirements Con’t • Australian and Netherlands Universities: Students born in Mainland or holding PRC passport, must obtain a NUFFIC certificate to study in the Netherlands. A requirement for this certificate is either TOEFL IBT 80 or above OR IELTS 6.0 or above. These test scores must also be valid. Scores that are EXPIRED or EXPRING within the next 6 months during the application process will NOT be accepted. No other tests or scores will be accepted. You can check with the exchange coordinator for details if you do not know how and where to purchase the insurance after arriving. • You should also note that if you travel to other countries before arriving at the destination country, or before returning to Hong Kong, you will also need to arrange for your own insurance. • More information regarding the insurance will be sent to students after the offer is confirmed. Exchange Sponsorship Scheme • The scheme has 2 parts: – Basic sponsorship – Means-Tested sponsorship • Local students can apply for the Basic sponsorship ($6,000) before going on exchange. If you don’t wish to participate have a valid reason, you can apply to opt out with the SBM Office. • As a Buddy, you will receive the exchange-in student from the airport, help him/her to settle into HKUST, and actively assist him/her where possible during the semester. SBM office will notify exchange-out students of their assigned buddies. • Through active interaction in this program, we hope to help students’ foster greater international friendships. As well, international students will be able to understand more about Asian hospitality, culture, and traditions. • Students can meet students from their host institution and get better prepared for exchange. • More information on the Buddy Program will be given out NEXT YEAR.
