Hopefully your kids have been home sharing how they have been celebrating this special week at our school. I hope you all enjoyed time with your kids over the holidays. I heard of a few families who made it down to the mountain for some skiing which was good. I know the weather around here wasn’t that great but provided a good opportunity to read some books and snuggle up and watch some movies together. It is my pleasure to welcome Lyn Redmond to our team here at Mount Primary. Lyn is taking our “old entrants” who started in Room 4 with Miss Cassidy earlier this year. Lyn brings with her a wealth of skills and experience and I know she will ensure the best possible learning for her Mounties. Miss West is away this week, she is getting married and enjoying a little time away before she returns to school next week. Miss MacDonald is teaching in Room 2 for this week, so welcome back Kirsty, enjoy your time in Room 2. I would like to offer a special welcome to all the new students we have with us this term. Some have come from a long way away to come and learn with us here at Mount Primary. So if you notice some new faces around introduce yourself and please make our new students and their families feel welcome. Cheers Damien Class Photos — Friday 8th August New Online Ordering System This year our class photographs will be available for you to view and order online with PhotoLife Studios. Your child will bring home an Online slip with their unique Shoot Key detailed on it. This Shoot Key will display all the photographs of your child. It is then an easy process for you to shop online and purchase the photographs you want. If you place your order within three weeks of receiving your Shoot Key you will receive free delivery for your photo orders. PhotoLife has agreed to despatch all the orders back to the school and your child will bring their photographs home. Any orders placed after this three week period will be sent directly to your specified delivery address and will incur a $5.00 postage & packaging charge. You will see this message when you go online to view and order your photographs. Please note: Sibling photos are not available online. As in the past envelopes will be available from the school office for these orders (prior to photo day) and also if you do not have internet access. Please see Kath or Heather in the office for an envelope if required, or if you have any queries. Our Creative Curriculum The focus for our creative curriculum this term is “Where in the World”. It’s all about students learning about other places in the world and how people use, shape and interact with places. As usual we will be creating opportunities for our Mounties to come together as a whole school and to share learning together. Dance Afternoon - As part of our Creative Curriculum Unit (Where in the World) we’re having a Dance Afternoon on Tuesday 23rd September (afternoon). More details to follow. Weekly Quiz - Each week Mounties will be given a question to answer. Ask your child what this week’s question is. PTA House Tees House Tee Shirts are almost here. Thanks to Kath and Heather in the office for collating all the sizes we need and distributing these to all kids when they arrive (hopefully in the next few days). This has been a long time coming and has seen the input of many people. I’d like to offer a big thank you to anyone who has helped move this project along. Mr Bart As I walked around the school over the holidays I couldn’t help but smile. Mr Bart has our school looking great! It’s clean and tidy, he has added some mulch to ur gardens and tidied up around our school in order to have it looking great for when we returned to school. If you see Bart around, give him a high five so he knows we appreciate his hard work. SNUP Our school is currently undergoing a network upgrade, this started over the holidays and will conclude soon. This upgrade will further strengthen our school’s wireless and fibre network and is heavily subsidised by the Ministry of Education. This is part of the Ministry’s support for 21st century learning using web tools (like Reading Eggs) the devices we are rolling out thanks to TECT and our generous PTA, along with a range of other tools to support and enhance engagement and learning. Exciting times ahead! A Big Thank You to Daryl and Annette Wakefield from All Seasons Tree Care for donating mulch for our school gardens. AIMS — Weaving Grasshopper Soccer Grasshopper Soccer starts up again next week from Thursday 31st July. They will be running the programme every Thursday afternoon at school and they look forward to seeing the children there. If you would like to enrol please contact [email protected] or phone Chris on 5432183. Flyers are also available from the school office. Congratulations to: Charlise Byrne who completed in the Midlands Gymnastics competition in Rotorua last weekend and came first on the beam and first overall in the Level 3 grade. Well done Charlise! and Emily Denyer came third in the Cluster Spelling Bee last term. Well done Emily! and Our Travel Safe committee who won the “Share with Care” Radio ad competition. We won a Noel Leeming voucher which will be put to great use for our school (thanks). Travelsmart Travelsmart students will now run random days for Feet First starting in Term 3. Let’s make a difference and walk, bike, scooter every day! A message from the New Zealand Police I went to the Gold Coast to learn about Australian culture. This is perfect for this term’s topic “Where in the World?” We will be learning about other countries and what makes them different to ours.
