Organisers: Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois Richard Frackowiak, Ferath Kherif, Bogdan Draganski, Tea Danelutti HBP Education Programme Office Alois Saria, Christiane Riedl, Elisabeth Wintersteller Hands-On Training Topics: The participants will be introduced to a large dataset on a large cohort of patients and controls that include different type of data such as imaging (MRI/PET), genetics (SNP), proteins and neuropsychological tests data. The goal is to make progress in understanding brain diseases. The teams will create an application based on big data analyses for the identification of biological signatures of diseases. Participants will learn how to construct and combine tools for: visualization of high dimensional data, clustering of multi-level clinical data, identification of biomarkers, prediction of disease onsets and progression. Participation in the 2nd HBP Education Workshop 2015 is open to postgraduate students and young researchers working in one of the research areas covered by the HBP. Up to 30 students will be selected from a competitive application process based on pre-defined criteria. Students are requested to include an abstract on their current research in their application and to present a poster at the workshop. A special HBP award will be given for the best poster. Students working in HBP can apply at: https://education.humanbrainproject.eu All other students should contact: [email protected] Selected students who are not from Lausanne and Geneva area will receive free accomodation in shared rooms and students from outside Switzerland will receive reimbursement of lowest excursion fare air travel. Application deadline 01.February.2015 2nd HBP EDUCATION WORKSHOP The course is open to students with previous experience in neuroimaging, genetic, bioinformatics, statistics or computer science. Some knowledge of data-mining tools and scientific programing software (matlab, R, Python …) is desirable. During the workshop the participants will team-up in small groups (46) for collaborative data-driven work using the data and analysis tools provided by the HBP medical informatics platform. The workshop will be guided by mentors and experts and run like a hackathon. The participants are encouraged to generate new ideas and develop new techniques. Lectures and hands-on sessions will be led by experts from basic neuroscience, clinical neuroscience, medical informatics, bioinformatics, computer science and healthcare industry. future medicine medical intelligence for brain diseases Speakers: CHUV, Lausanne, Switzerland 15-18.March.2015 Brain diseases, neurological and psychiatric disorders are becoming a significant burden to society. Availability of clinical, genomic, proteomic and neuroimaging data combined with recent advances in ICT, data mining and computational modelling makes it possible to extract unique biological signatures of diseases from multi-level description of the brain. Future Medicine will build on biological signatures of diseases rather than symptom descriptions for diagnosis, more accurate prognosis, new types of drug discovery pathways, new treatments and personalized medicine.
