School Profile 2014-2015
Founded in 1962, the Anglican International School Jerusalem is a
nursery to grade 12 school. The school is coeducational and serves
children from 40 nationalities. AISJ is committed to the development of
the whole child and is founded on Christian beliefs and values whilst
respecting the rich and diverse communities within the school and in its
unique location. We strive to create a warm and caring environment, in
which students, families, and staff feel respected and valued.
PROGRAM
AISJ offers a rigorous and varied academic program and first class
pastoral care. The elementary curriculum in Pre-Kindergarten to grade 5
is broadly based on the International Primary Curriculum. Our nursery
school opens in January 2015. In the secondary school, we offer the
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6-10
and the Diploma Program (DP) for grades 11 and 12. Our curriculum is
adapted to the needs of an international student body and responsive to
the rich learning opportunities for study in the region. The courses
offered in grades 9-12 also lead to an American high school diploma.
ACCREDITATION
AISJ is fully accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and
Schools and is the only school in Israel to be accredited by the
International Baccalaureate Organization.
FACULTY
The secondary school faculty consists of 16 full-time staff and 13 parttime staff who hold 18 postgraduate certificates and 2 doctoral degrees.
STUDENTS
Total Enrolment is 264 students, ranging from age 2 to 19. They
represent 37 nationalities; approximately 37% are local students, 24%
from Europe, 28% from North America, 1% from South America, 5%
from Africa and 5% from Asia.
Secondary school enrollment is 118
students: 55 in grades 6-8; 11 in grade 9; 20 in grade 10; 22 in grade 11
and 10 in grade 12.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 20 credits: 4 in English, 4 in Social Sciences, 3 in Mathematics, 3 in
Science, 2 in one Foreign Language. All secondary students must complete a
course in Religious Education each year. Students in Grade 11-12 are required to
complete CAS requirements (Creativity, Action and Service).
Grading System
7 – Excellent, 6 – Very good, 5- Good, 4- Satisfactory, 3- Mediocre, 2 – Poor
(fail), 1 – Very poor (fail).
Class Rank
AISJ does not provide class ranking for seniors. There is no appropriate ranking
system that would adequately account for our highly transitory, international
students, many of whom transfer from schools with different educational and
grading systems.
