This is Tape #255 Part 1. The interviewer is Kalolaine Mapa and the interviewee is
Sūsana Mafi of Hamula, Tongatapu, Tonga. Sūsana Mafi will answer the question concerning
her genealogy. This is the first interview concerning her genealogy. Today is 19th of July 1977.
I am Sūsana Mafi speaking. I live at Hamula, but I was born at Ha’asini, Tongatapu, Tonga in
1911. I married Sione Mafi of Houma. Sione Mafi’s parents were (F) Tonga and Puli.
KM:
Sūsana, where did you go to school?
SM:
I attended school at Mu’a, at Takuilau’s home.
Sione Mafi and I were married in 1933 at Nuku’alofa and we have 8 children,

His 1st wife, Sela passed away and their children were,

Tēvita Puli Mafi married again to Uilini and had,

Tell about Falepapālangi?
SM:
Falepapālangi married Fekita of Fua’amotu and their girl is

Soane married Kilina of Nakolo and their children,

2. (M) Mikaele
3. (M) Kolomaile.
(M) Visesio married Kālisi of Lapaha and they have one boy named
1. (M) Hetueni.
(F) Luseane Tonga married Tēvita Lui and their girl is

(M) Sefilino married Vika of Hoi and they are going to have a baby.
KM:
Are any of your grandchildren married yet?
SM:
Not yet.
My siblings were,

Lesieli married Saia and they have children but I do not know them and they live here.

children.

Who are ‘Ipolito’s parents and his siblings?
SM:
‘Ipolito Manu’s parents are (M) Sōsefo Folaumahinakovi and Malia Fehoko and their
children are,.

2. (M) Maletino lives at Tofoa, is still single, his mother is (F) Sisi of Tofoa.

Who are Sōsefo Folaumahinakovi’s parents and his siblings?
SM:
Sōsefo Folaumahinakovi’s parents are (M) Sonasi Vaimelie and (F) Tuna. Sonasi
Vaimelie was a Kavakimotu. Sōsefo ’s siblings were,

His mother is related to me. Mohulamu has a half - brother named Niko, they have the
same father.
Mohulamu married Latai and they have 2 children,

Fuapau first married (F) Halamehi and they have,

Faupau’s 2nd wife is (F) Tufakava and I do not know their children.

SM:
Yes, a girl name Laukaupo’uli.
My maternal grandparents are Tīmote Mo’unga and Mafi Hiva and their children were,

SM:
Paula married a lady from ‘Eua and they have,

Lōseli, my mother’s sister married (M) Siliva of ‘Eua, they came to ‘Alaki to work for the
church and Loseli died there so she was buried at ‘Alaki.
Vokili, one of my mother’s sister married (M) Tēvita Ha’unga of Fatumu, they did not
have children.

(F) Ma’ulupe married (M) Sefo of Fatumu, Sefo died and Ma’ulupe return to ‘Eua.
(M) Kakala married Ane of ’Ohonua, ‘Eua and they did not have children.
(M) Tīmote’s father is from Tufu, ‘Eua.
Mafi Hiva’s mother is (F) Fusi.
Setelo’s father is Tu’i’afitu. Fusi’s mother is from Mu’a.
