HOLIDAY 9 a.m. Fr. Mark Ullrich This week I am happy to share the Pastor’s Reflection with Deacon John Heithaus and an important topic ... TUESDAY, JANUARY 20: 7 a.m. Fr. Paul Hamilton 8 a.m. Fr. Mark Ullrich If you’ve attended “it”, you know how life changing it can be. Mention “it” among the hundreds of past attendees in Sacred Heart, and their eyes light up, their conversations becomes energized, and they begin to tell stories about how their lives were changed as a result of CRHP. Point out the men and women who are the energy behind so much of what happens in Sacred Heart, and there’s a good possibility you’re talking about men and women who, themselves, were energized by “it”. WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY, JANUARY 21& 23: 7 a.m. Fr. Mark Ullrich 8 a.m. Communion Service THURSDAY, JANUARY 22: 7 a.m. Communion Service 8 a.m. Fr. Mark Ullrich SATURDAY, JANUARY 24: 8:00 a.m. Fr. Mark Ullrich Wedding Banns, Brian Twillman & Christine Semana February 7th, 2015 Please welcome the newly baptized, Dominic Charles Valleroy son of Aaron & Alicia CarlyAnn Marie Velasco daughter of Michael & Janah Teresa Gianna Vento daughter of Michael & Heather We pray for the deceased, † Edward Klenc Husband of June † James Haley Husband of Veronica † Thomas Henderson, Sr. Husband of Jeanette † Kathleen Smith The “it” of course, is a Christ Renews His Parish retreat, also known by the acronym CRHP (“chirp”). I’m happy to announce that CRHP is coming back to Sacred Heart this March. A woman’s CRHP retreat is scheduled for March 7-8, and the men’s retreat is March 14-15. What is CRHP? When I ask people why they want to belong to Sacred Heart Parish, the most common answer is that it’s such an exciting and loving community – people care about each other, they’re involved, they’re committed, and it’s fun. CRHP is all about that – it’s about building and strengthening the Faith community that makes Sacred Heart such a wonderful Parish. It’s a weekend of good fellowship, prayer, personal renewal, and strengthening the sense of community. It’s an opportunity to develop relationships with the men and women who sit in the next pew at Mass but who you’ve never met, or who you see at sports events, or as the parents of kids your children go to school with. It’s a call to re-energize your own faith and commitment to Sacred Heart. When I was invited to go on a CRHP retreat 10 years ago, it was the last thing I wanted to do. I remember sitting there Saturday morning thinking about all the things I could have been doing and resenting Fr. Stanger for pressuring me to go. That was Saturday morning. By Sunday afternoon I was so excited I didn’t want it to end. I had made new friends, and I had a whole different perspective on the men I had spent those 30 hours with. CRHP is a two-day personal and parish renewal event given at Sacred Heart for 25 men or women of the Parish, and led by men and women of the Parish. The weekend provides time for discussions about real life challenges in our lives and our families, time to participate in the Sacraments, and just get to know each other. There are 25 slots for the March 7-8 (Women’s) and March 1415 (Men’s) Retreats. I resented being there for the first several hours – but now having experienced CRHP, I know that I would have resented it a lot more if I hadn’t gone. I don’t want you to miss out! Check the information elsewhere in the bulletin for details on how to sign up. WHAT IS PRAYER? Prayer is, first and foremost, a heartfelt conversation and living relationship with God. “Whether we realize it or not, prayer is the encounter of God’s thirst with ours. God thirsts that we may thirst for Him” (CCC, 256). Prayer is the first essential element of a serious spiritual formation process. “There is no substitute for a daily commitment to prayer” (Archbishop Carlson).
