DC-REIA Members Hang Out With Donald Trump in DC!
The Wharton School of
Business is known as the “Number One
Business School” in the country, and
on October 22nd, Donald Trump
received the schools’ top alumni honor,
known as the “Joseph D. Wharton”
award. Presenting the award was none
other than Sherman Ragland, the Dean
of the Realinvestors® Academy of DC
and Founder of DC-REIA. Ragland was
the winner of the award in 2013, and he
made sure that DC-REIA members
were well represented at this year’s
awards dinner. With only 32 select
seats allocated to DC-REIA, the chance
to have your picture taken with Donald
Trump and also “rub shoulders” with
DC’s most influential business leaders
quickly became the “hottest ticket in
town”. Fortunately, for Ragland the
task of allocating the seats became in
his words, “quite easy!” According to Ragland, “this
was definitely a ‘once in a lifetime’
event, so I wanted to be sure that the
people who are really making the effort
to get things done as investors were
the ones who joined us. So naturally, I
selected the DC-REIA members who
are VIP/Elite and Platinum and of
course, the newly created “Circle of
Champions.” Winners want to hang
with winners and that was what this
event was all about, “Winners
celebrating the successes of other
winners!” Of course, there was a lot of
money in the room, and needless to say,
some new connections were made by
DC-REIA members that night!

one of the Teams at Realinvestors®. According to Jonathan, its all about good time management,
which starts with setting your priorities.
Many people simply go about their day being told what to do by a boss, or being influenced by
outside forces. But if you’re not careful, you’ll wake up one day in a place you really don’t want to be,
working in a place you do not want to work, making an amount of money that is well below your
talent, and you’ll discover this when its too late to do anything about it. Fortunately, for me and my
wife, this “wake up call” came early when we found ourselves in a city 350 miles away from our
families, and looking at the birth of our first child. We knew that we had to make different choices if
we wanted to have the kind of family life that we both talked about when we first met. I had to make
what seemed like some hard decisions at the time, but I knew the alternative, waking up at “O’Dark
Thirty” to make some other guy rich, was not going to be a part of our “game plan.”
While we had family in the DC area, I really did not have many business connections here, so I
took the first job I could, selling cars. Pretty far away from real estate, but the company had a good
product and good training programs. As a commissioned sales person I also quickly realized that if I
didn’t work hard and stay focused, we were not going to be able to eat, so I learned the art of being
disciplined and staying focused on the task at hand. After a couple of years I made a career shift and
went into the mortgage business and it was while learning the insider’s secrets of the mortgage
business I learned where the real money is in real estate - being an investor!
The key to success is learning how to leverage resources. You Don’t need to know everything, you
just need to get to know the other members of Realinvestors®, then trade off each others’s strengths!
