z January 29, 2015 - Mont Ste. Marie The Annual Corporate Skifest brings together the National Capital Region’s business community for a full-day event to support a very worthwhile cause Ottawa's Ronald McDonald House - a "Home-Away-From-Home" for families with children suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses who are being treated at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Last year the Ronald McDonald House extended their program and funded two new family rooms at CHEO so that local families also have a convenient way to stay close to their hospitalized children. The Annual Ronald McDonald Skifest event is THE LARGEST annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House and their family centered programs. Join us on January 29th and help us give sick children what they need most – their families! With your support and others in our local business community we are hoping to raise $120,000 with 60 ski teams participating. Enter a team, become a sponsor or donate a prize for our silent auction. We need your support! See next page for sponsorship details Ski Cross Course & Ski Cross Racing Clinic In addition to the ski team races this year, this year’s Skifest will include a Ski Cross experience for all that are game. Treatment of a sick child may take weeks, months or years and is very stressful for the child, the parents and the rest of the family, especially when they are miles from home. Ronald McDonald House eases some of the stress by providing a warm, safe and comfortable accommodation in a homelike atmosphere, where parents can be near their hospitalized child and where families share and receive moral support from each other - a child being treated as an outpatient can stay with the rest of the family, as the hospital is only 167 steps away! Ottawa’s Ronald McDonald House has opened two Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). These Family Rooms are used by families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House, as well as families who reside locally. They provide family members with an opportunity to have a meal or close their eyes for a few moments while staying close to their hospitalized children. Thank you for helping us give sick children what they need most – their families!! “When you’re in the hospital for a long time with a sick child…what you know as normal life is no more…The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a space within the hospital where, just for a short time, you and your family can forget where you are and why you’re there” Kim McKay
