Our diagnostic imaging equipment reflects the latest advances in imaging science, including radiation dose reduction capabilities. Lifespan hospitals’ medical imaging service continually upgrades its equipment, which is state of the art, and designs our protocol to minimize patients’ exposure to radiation. Our board-certified radiologists read and interpret all images and report results to your physician. With patients’ convenience in mind, appointments are available days, evenings, and weekends at multiple locations. Staff are also available for emergency procedures 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rhode Island Hospital is the principal teaching hospital and The Miriam Hospital is a major teaching affiliate of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. All radiologists on staff are also faculty members at the school, and our diagnostic imaging medical staff trains Alpert Medical School residents specializing in diagnostic imaging. The residency program was recently ranked number one out of 186 training programs across the country. Rapid Results In most cases, our diagnostic imaging staff reports test results to your physician the same day that testing is done. This rapid turnaround decreases the time you wait for test results and expedites the implementation of treatment plans or the scheduling of surgery, depending on the diagnosis. Our acute care hospitals share a communications system that stores digital radiology images, and at any time, physicians and other team members can view a patient’s most recent laboratory, radiology and electrocardiogram results.
