DON JAMIESON
December 3, 1934 - January 12, 2015
Don Jamieson passed away on January 12,
2015 at Rosefield Centre surrounded by his
family. Don was born in McAuley, Manitoba on December 3, 1934. He completed his
schooling to grade 11 and then taught on a permit at DeClare Country School near his home.
Don was passionate about cattle and was a 4-H
member and Leader for many years. His passion stretched into the Hereford business and in
the early 1950’s he purchased his first purebred. He
was also an outstanding ball player in the Manitoba Senior
league, and was scouted by the St Louis Cardinals in 1955 as a pitcher.
He supported minor baseball both as a coach and umpire for many years,
known in Manitoba and on the ball diamonds as “Duck”. In 2009 he
was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Don had a love
for music and played multiple instruments by ear. He enjoyed square
dancing and played in several small bands in the McAuley area. Don
also enjoyed the sport of curling and later in life took up golfing in his
retirement years.
Don and Bev (Thompson) were married on April 18, 1956 where they
operated a mixed farm just east of McAuley and began raising their family. They had 4 children, Sherry, Pat (deceased), Kim, and Kevin. In
1969 they moved west to Innisfail where he was the herdsman for LRD
Hereford Farm and gained his reputation as a respected cattleman in
the Hereford industry. He moved to Bar Pipe Farms at Okotoks in 1980
where he managed the farming and purebred cattle operations. During
that time Bar Pipe produced several Calgary Bull Sale Champions and
high-sellers, and hosted successful production sales. Don was an active
board member and served as President of both the Alberta Hereford Association and the Alberta Cattle Breeders. His dedication to the Hereford
breed and the livestock industry as a whole built his reputation as a wellrespected and highly knowledgeable cattleman far beyond the Canadian
borders. Don and Bev retired back to Innisfail in 1997 where he continued on as a cattle Consultant until Bev’s passing in 2000. Don later
met his companion Bert Popovich and enjoyed Stick curling, horseshoes,
golf, and traveling until his health deteriorated.
Don will be remembered for his integrity, commitment to helping others, and his ability to take life as it came. He is survived by his daughters
Sherry Graham (Ted), Kim Lewis (Garry), and son Kevin(Lorie) and 4
Grandchildren, Sholeh Fabbri, Sarah Stahl, Katie Rauckman, and Lance
Lewis; 4 great grandchildren, Claudia & Dante Fabbri, Tulsa Stahl, and
Allie Rauckman. He is also survived by his two brothers Ross Jamieson
(Anna) and Sam Jamieson(Dawna).
A funeral service was held on Monday, January 19th, 2015 at the
Innisfail United Church where friends and family gathered to celebrate his
life. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Parkinson’s
Society. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail entrusted with
arrangements. Phone: 403-227-0006. www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.

PETERSON, Marvin Oscar
March 14, 1925 - January 14, 2015
Marvin
Oscar
Peterson
started his new journey on
January 14, 2015 with his
loved ones by his side.
Marvin will be remembered for being able to
make so many people
laugh with his quick wit
and charming nature. He
was known for telling stories
to people of all ages, accepting people for who
they are, and appreciating them for what they
stood for. Whether it was taking his grandchildren riding on his homemade go-cart/dune buggy or playing charades with friends, Marvin had
a passion for life. He also spent many evenings
travelling to Innisfail enjoying the company of
his numerous nieces and nephews. The sparkle
in Marvin’s eye was used to inspire others to
appreciate the best life has to offer, roll with the
punches and take everyday as a new adventure.
Marvin and his wife Doreen had many adventures in their travels and enjoyed dancing every
Saturday night. They were inseparable since
1976; rarely has a couple ever shared so much
and loved so deeply. Marvin is survived by his
wife Doreen; his three sons: Murray (Joyce),
Dale, and Rob (Sheri); and Doreen’s children:
Linda, Nancy, Burdine (Colin), Bill (Joanne)
and Lory (Jon). He is also survived by fourteen
grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin will
be deeply missed by his close circle of family
and friends. In recognition of Marvin’s life, a
Celebration will be held at the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch #10, Strathmore, Alberta on
Friday, January 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Pawsitive Matches; Canadian Diabetes
Association or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Bergos, Marjorie
On January 12, 2015,
our much loved mother
Marjorie Bergos passed
away peacefully at the
age of 92 years with
her family by her side.
She will be lovingly
remembered by her
children Lynne (Roland) of
Edmonton, Barry (Christine)
of Calgary and Joanne of Edmonton. Marjorie
will also be fondly remembered by Margaret
Clem of Kamloops, Jeanne Barr of Edmonton
and Alex (Dorothy) Bergos of Drumheller
as well as eight grandchildren, 11 great
grandchildren and extended family members
and friends. She was predeceased by husband
Peter, brother Jack and grandson Jeremy.
Marjorie was born and raised in Vancouver
and met Peter while he was stationed there
during World War II. Married in October1946,
they moved to Grainger, Alberta, then on to
Bowden. After many happy years in Bowden,
they retired to Olds. Marjorie always loved
to garden for which she won many awards,
participated in church activities, and was a
50 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of
the Royal Canadian Legion. Marjorie lived
in Edmonton for the last 5 years, close to her
family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m.,
Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Highlands
United Church at 11305 - 64 Street NW,
Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer
Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca) would
be sincerely appreciated. The family is grateful
for the compassionate care provided by Dr.
Paul Kivi and the staff at the Devonshire Care
Centre.
