HYBRIDS FOR THE NON-GMO MARKET
We’re about to shatter your perspective on conventional hybrids for the non‑GMO market. With an increased
focus and dedication to this important segment, Wyffels is rapidly developing best-in-class conventional
hybrids.
Some of the results can be seen in our 2015 product lineup. With hybrids ranging from 95 to 114 RM, the
expanded Wyffels conventional lineup will meet or exceed competitive options. That is important—because
gaining premiums, but losing bushels, doesn’t put you any farther ahead.
Ratings are based on comparisons among Wyffels hybrids of like maturity, where 1 = Low, 5 = Average, and 9 = High trait expression.

MANAGING IDENTITY
PRESERVED GRAIN
IDENTITY PRESERVATION / GRAIN QUALITY
■
Consult with your grain buyer for contract specifications, including
delivery points and dates, any special storage or handling
requirements, and marketing and pricing options.
■
Grain production following soybeans, compared to continuous
corn production, can reduce the risk of contamination from other
corn.
■
Identity preservation requirements may include a specific protocol
for cleaning grain handling facilities and planting and harvesting
equipment.
■
Isolation requirements away from other types of corn may apply for
some contract production.
■
Know what’s growing in surrounding fields and follow isolation
protocols to minimize risk of possible contamination.
■
Grain quality traits like kernel hardness, test weight, or grain
appearance may also be rewarded for the quality conscious
producer.
■
In addition to in-field management, absence of any chemical insect
control on stored grain is important. Specific export customers
may require this for their particular use.
■
Storage needs for specific contract production should be carefully
estimated, so enough bin capacity is allocated to keep the harvested
non-GMO grain segregated from other grain production.
INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
■
Since non-GMO hybrids have no genetic insect
protection, more diligent insect scouting may
be necessary during some parts of the growing
season. Important major insect pests like
European corn borer, corn earworm, and corn
rootworm may cause economic damage and can
cause stalk lodging or grain damage. Other minor
corn insects require field scouting to determine
their presence and potential for economic
damage.

Early season weed control provides an excellent
start to the growing crop. Weed control is typically
best provided by either a pre-plant incorporated
or a pre-emerge application of a single herbicide
or combination of corn herbicides, depending on
the weed spectrum. Post-emerge weed control is
dependent on weeds that are present, but small
weeds are easiest to control.

A fungicide application to control leaf diseases
when they are present can help protect yield
potential and provide improved plant integrity in
the fall.
