The process begins in carefully selecting
timber that comes from responsible forests.
Good forest management has always
required the selective felling and planting of
trees ensuring that our woods and forests
remain for future generations to use and
enjoy. Our FSC® certification provides a
chain of custody that ensures a responsible
process is followed from the forest to the
finished work surface. This is something that
we care strongly about because upon such
practises the future of our business depends.

At Dovetail the selected timber is seasoned
in a controlled manufacturing process that
reduces and balances the residual moisture
content of each piece. This seasoning is
important because it not only reduces the
weight and makes the wood naturally stronger;
it also makes the wood more reliable and less
prone to movement in its installed position.
Our work surfaces are made from precisely
manufactured solid wood blocks or ‘staves’
of seasoned timber. The staves have well
proportioned dimensions to produce a beautiful
and immensely strong solid wood work surface.
Each work surface is unique in appearance due
to the varying staves of natural timber selected.
Staves are bonded together with finger joints
and specialist adhesive. The strength of a
finger joint comes from the long-grain to
long-grain contact between the fingers,
which provides a solid gluing joint.
Dovetail work surfaces are supplied with
square cut ends which can be retained for
a more contemporary feel or they can be
machined to your own choice of profile.

wood work surfaces, and help stop water
ingress between the wall and work surface.
The Dovetail Rustic range
Dovetail Rustic Beech and Rustic Oak work surfaces offer a lower cost alternative to
the main Dovetail range whilst retaining all the qualities of a solid wood work surface.
Our Rustic range offers increased variation in colour and knots to create a more
rustic appearance.

Dovetail preserving oil applied with a clean
cloth to your work surface every two to three
months, depending on use, will not only
make your Dovetail surface resistant to water
damage but give it a richer, darker finish.
Oiled surfaces are easier to keep clean and
protected from moisture whilst retaining the
natural characteristics of the wood.
Ask your installer to recommend a preserving
oil and advise you on how to maintain these
beautiful, natural products.
