Join in the joy of choral singing as an audience member or a
singer – or perhaps both! Further information on how you can sing
with us is contained within this brochure. We look forward to
welcoming you to an SPC event in 2015.
Come and hear our exceptional choirs perform Bach’s St John
Passion at Easter and Jenkins’ The Armed Man in May. A new
commission will be programmed with Fauré’s Requiem to
acknowledge Australia’s role in France during World War 1.
Gershwin will come to the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall in
September and we have our first Chamber Singers performance
in the Utzon Room at the Opera House, followed by three
performances of Handel’s Messiah which together signal the
lead up to the festive season.
The 2015 Sydney Philharmonia Choirs season is focused
on sharing the joy of choral singing with as many people as
possible, either as audience members or as singers taking
part in our wonderful range of performances and events.

A Christmas
Story
The Utzon Room is the perfect backdrop for a
concert that celebrates vocal music inspired
by water. As well as two world premieres by
Australian composers Rosalind Page and Luke
Byrne, hear the sublime vocal music of Whitacre,
Delius and Vaughan Williams. Be surprised by
the possibilities of choral music with Stars by the
lauded Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds that
employs water-tuned glasses for celestial effects.
Hallelujah: Celebrate the start of the
festive season in the traditional way.
We are commissioning Australian composer
Sally Whitwell to create a new festive,
family-friendly event, with new and old
Christmas songs and a fun story for Christmas.
Mark Easter with Bach’s moving
setting of the story of Christ’s final days.
Sung in German.
Festival Chorus performs The Armed Man –
A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins,
one of the most performed works
by a living composer in the world today.
Our young adult choir VOX also present
works celebrating and evoking peace.
