The wet collodion photographic process produced a glass negative and a beautifully detailed print. Preferred for the quality of the prints and the ease with which they could be reproduced, the new method thrived from the 1850s until about 1880. The wet plate collodion process has undergone a revival as a historical technique over the past few decades. Many fine art photographers also use the process and its handcrafted individuality for gallery showings and personal work. Juror Quinn Jacobson is a Denver fine artist and art educator who has taught and created in the United States and Europe for over 30 years. Since 2000, his area of expertise has been in historic photographic processes, concentrating mostly on Wet Plate Collodion. He played a central role in (re)introducing the Wet Plate process to Europe (2006 – 2011) which created a revival of the process there. Her skills and discretion are much in demand, and she has managed to stuff a goodly sum of money into her quilt over the years. One by one, the other denizens of the boarding house marry and move away, but Esther remains, lonely and longing for a husband and a future. Written by the award-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, Intimate Apparel offers poignant commentary on the turn-of-the-century era when the cut and color of one’s dress—and of course, skin— determined whom one could and could not marry, sleep with, or even talk to in public. Rated PG-13 Oklahoma!, 2013 Side Show, 2014 Children of Eden March 4"–"7 • 7:30pm • March 8 • 2pm Langworthy Theatre • Musical with book by John Caird • Music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz • Based on a concept by Charles Lisanby • Directed and Choreographed by Matthew Herrick • Musical Direction by Dr. Richard Shore Full of joyous music by legendary composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin) and freely based on the story of Genesis, Children of Eden is a frank and humorous examination of conflict between parents and children. Adam, Eve, Noah and the “Father” who created them deal with the cataclysmic actions of their children. Children of Eden delivers a bittersweet, inspiring message: “the hardest part of love... is letting go.” Rated PG TICKETS • 970-351"–"2200 12!•!UNC College of Performing and Visual Arts • arts.unco.edu/calendar Spring Dance Concert: Ladies First Dance Conference April 2"–"4 • 7:30pm The Northwest Region American College Dance Association Conference will be held on campus March 17-20, 2015. These outstanding choreographers hail from the collegiate environment as well as the independent professional world. Spring Dance 2014 brought you the talents of male choreographers. Not to be outdone, this cadre of female choreographers represent the best of the region and are sure to leave you invigorated by their collective voice resounding in the world of concert dance. Rated PG Once In A Lifetime April 23"–"25 • 7:30pm • April 26 • 2pm Langworthy Theatre • Comedy/Farce by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman • Directed by David Grapes Set in the 1930s, Once in a Lifetime is wacky tale of three on-the-skids vaudeville troupers heading for Hollywood to try their luck at the newest craze: “talkies.” After hilarious misadventures and blunders, the unassuming George is carried to fame and fortune, becoming (for a short time) a captain of the film industry. This wild comedy romp offers slapstick humor and all the lunacy of a Hollywood film set. Rated PG Collegiate dancers, faculty, and guest teachers from colleges and universities housed in states of Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah will be on campus for workshops and dance concerts. Friday night is the Gala Concert in which the best dances from the adjudicated concerts are performed again.
