Are you taking the ACT, PSAT, SAT or TSI this Spring? Do you need a quick overview
before the big day? If so, please join us for Conroe ISD’s upcoming Test Prep Boot
Camp
Location: The Woodlands High School
Date: Saturday, January 31, 2015.
Time: Sessions will run from 8:30am - 12:30pm. Check-in starts at 8:00am.
Cost: $30 – Pay on the CISD Web store or the College Readiness Office (CISD Administration Building)

Snacks will be provided and Door Prizes will be drawn.
Introductory sessions are offered to students in math, reading, writing and science for the ACT, SAT and
TSI. TSI (Texas Success Initiative) test prep is recommended for students who are planning to take dual
credit courses, participate in the Accelerated College Program or a graduating senior who is planning to
attend a Texas college or university. If you have any questions about the TSI or dual credit courses,
please see your high school counselor.
Boot Camp offers an overview of what students can expect on test day. (These sessions do not cover all
the material and practice students receive in the longer test preparation courses.) For full length

JUNIORS!
Ms. Harbin the College & Career Counselor will be meeting with all 11th graders during their English III
classes. Meetings with individual classes are scheduled starting January 6, 2015 and ending February 2,
2015. She will be helping students log in to their Naviance Family Connection Account and assigning
them the following tasks to be completed by June 4, 2015:
1) Register to take an ACT or SAT
2) Complete their Student Brag Sheet & Academic Resume
3) Complete an interest inventory
4) Write a personal Essay/ Write Topic Essays for college application
5) Start a College Search and apply to at least 5 scholarships
JUNIORS! There will be a Mini College Fair at Oak Ridge on Friday, February 13 in the Cafeteria during
all lunches! This is the time to start researching colleges that you may be interested in applying to next
year!
There will also be a National College Fair at the NRG Center (formerly Reliant Center). Come visit with
over 200 colleges and universities. Register today at: www.gotomyncf.com. There are two sessions –
Session One from 9:30- 12:30 AM. Session Two- from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarships (4 different scholarships available!) – Deadline 1/20 $1,000. Seniors only. Apply online at www.rmhc.org.
Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Principal's Award – Deadline 1/23 - $1,000 - Seniors only.
Strong academic performance, demonstrate leadership abilities in school or work experiences, have
strong commitment to and involvement in community service. Awards are $2,000, $5,000, $8,500 and
$12,000. Applications are completed on-line at http://www.herffjones.com/biuscholarship or by clicking
the "website" on Naviance. Mr. Johnson, the principal, will be your nominator - ENTER HIS NAME BUT DO
NOT ENTER HIS EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE NOMINATION SECTION! ALSO, ENTER YOUR COUNSELOR'S NAME
BUT DO NOT ENTER YOUR COUNSELOR'S EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE CERTIFICATION SECTION! Once you
submit the application, print a copy of the Certifier's instructions and return to the College & Career
Center by the deadline . One student from Oak Ridge will be selected by a scholarship committee to
represent ORHS in the competition.
KAITLYN VALLERY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Deadline 1/30 - $1,000
This is a local scholarship. Seniors only. Open to students who have made a major life change and/or
overcome personal hurdles during high school. 2.5 - 3.3 GPA. Applicant must plan to attend a vocational
school, 2 or 4 year college/university. Application can be downloaded and typed using the "application
form" link on Naviance or come to the College & Career Center. Turn in to the College & Career Center by
the deadline.
HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO SCHOLARSHIPS (4 different scholarships available) – Deadline
2/23 - $16,000 – Seniors only. Apply online at www.rodeohouston.com/scholarships.
SENIORS! Are you considering attending LoneStar College – Montgomery next year?
We have an Admissions Representative who will be working with the ORHS Seniors twice a month to help
with the application and testing process! Ms. Greenleaf will be in the College & Career Center on Monday,
January 26 from 8:30 – 12:00. Sign up to meet with her on Naviance Family Connection (“colleges” tab,
“view upcoming college visits”) or come by the CCC for a pass.
