Abhiyaan should not remain
a programme, but it should
become a discipline for
saving life among citizens. In
India alone, the total number
of deaths every year due to
road accidents has now
passed the 1,35,000 mark,
according to the latest report
of National Crime Records

victims are left to die on the
streets even when hospitals

Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
The officials assure that this too
will become systematic from 26th
January onwards.
The civic body is currently
collecting the residential and
community trash on a rotational
basis.
'There was certainly a
problem in collecting the trash as
we were unable to get contractor
due to various issues. However
now, the issue has been solved and
the garbage will not only be
collected on a daily basis but also
in a more scientific manner,” said
Babasaheb Rajale, deputy
municipal commissioner, solid
waste management, NMMC.
The solid waste department
will be placing two types of bins in
each society of 120 litres and 240
litres capacity of green and blue
colour for wet and dry waste
respectively. The number of bins
and the capacity of the bins will be
based on the size of a society.
Likewise, 1100 litre capacity
bin will be placed in community
provided with Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) chips which
will help monitor if the garbage is
collected promptly.
“We will provide two different
bins for every society- Green for
wet waste and Blue for dry waste.
The size of the bins and the
number of bins to be given to a
society will depend on the waste
generated from the societies. The
residents will have to segregate
waste into wet and dry category,”
said Rajale.
Speaking further he said, we
will collect all the wet waste every
day however the dry waste will be
collected in a phased manner
depending on the waste generated.
The official also informed that
they will be conducting awareness
drive in the city on how to dispose
off the waste.
As regards community bins
stickers will be placed to enable
people to identify the bins for wet
and dry garbage respectively.
The city generates around 700
tonnes of garbage every day.
