Named after the warhorse of Alexander the Great, they were dubbed the 2010 Australian FLL January 2015 National Champions in their rookie year, and have gone on to represent Australian at the International level in the Netherlands (2011), United 13/14, 19/20, 22/23 States (2012), Australia (2013) and Canada (2014). They are responsible for the creation and mentoring many Wollongong teams, and have been involved in running robotics activities for children in the Illawarra since January 2011. Robo Camps @ UOW Workshop #2: Introduction to MINDSTORMS® (Wollongong Campus) Date: 13th—14th January 2015 (Tues-Wed) Cost: $110 (Inc. GST) Time: 9am to 3pm This our standard beginner course, suitable for both NXT® and EV3®. Students are introduced to LEGO® Mindstorms®, learning the basics of robotics and programming as they build robots capable of reacting to their environment and making simple decisions. The second day of the workshop finishes with the ever-popular “Robot Sumo” challenge and a tournament where all families are welcome. No previous experience is required. While the activity is designed to be suitable for ages 7 and up, we will accept younger students if they are accompanied by an adult. Workshop #3: Player Verse Player (Wollongong Campus) Date: 13th—14th January 2015 (Tues-Wed) Cost: $150 (Inc. GST) Time: 9am to 3pm “Player 1: Start!”. Students will build and program robots to compete or cooperate within challenges inspired by classic electronic games. Build cars or crocodiles to pursue the elusive Robo-Frogger, or cooperate with the other Ghosts to catch the Pac-Robot. This is a course using remote control via Bluetooth or IR communication, designed for students already familiar with LEGO® Mindstorms® (either NXT® and EV3®). While the activity is designed to be suitable for ages 7 and up, we will accept younger students if they are accompanied by an adult. Note: Students supplying equipment for this course must provide: 1) 2 x NXT Bricks OR 2) 2 x EV3 Bricks OR 3) EV3 Brick + IR Sensor + Beacon. Parents please read, date and sign. GST) Time: 10am to 4pm Students will discover robot autonomy and interaction as they build and program robots to undertake live-action variations of arcade gaming. Ranging from the retro “Pinball Wizard” to the more modern “Plants vs. Robots”, students will compete, cooperate and have fun! This workshop is suitable for both NXT® and EV3®. While the activity is designed to be suitable for experienced students ages 7 and up, we will accept younger children if they are accompanied by an adult. Workshop #6: Pirates! (Wollongong Campus) Date: 22nd –23rd January 2015 (Thurs– Fri) Cost: $150 (Inc. GST) Time: 9am to 3pm This is a brand-new course, catering to both Novice and Advanced skill levels. Students will work in teams to undertake a series of Piratethemed activities, ranging from “walking the plank” to hunting for buried treasure and fighting naval battles. Novice students will undertake an accelerated Introduction course before joining the more experienced students. This workshop is suitable for both NXT® and EV3®. While the activity is designed to be suitable for experienced students ages 7 and up, we will accept younger children if they are accompanied by an adult.
