Analysis study of the results of surgical treatment in delayed union and nonunion
scaphoid fractures

Abstract
The study included (32) patients between (2002-2007) who have come to Al-Assad University Hospital
with delayed union or nonunion scaphoid fractures.
The incidence rate in males was four times females rate (26 male, 6 females ) with mean age 28 years
old.
Results were studied after six months in 12 patients who were treated by fixing with auto bony pin
from the distal ends of radius, & 10 patients who were treated by fixing with Kirschner wires, & 10
patients who were treated by fixing with metal screw.
We followed up the patients for 12 months after surgery: - union happened in 10 patients in the first
group (83.3%) - union happened in ٦ patients in the second group (60%)- union happened in 7 patients
in the third group (70%).
The results of treatment by fixing with both Kirscshner wires and metal screw was bad ,but it was
good by fixing with auto bony pin in both union and function .
