National Conference on ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN INDIA Roadmap for Achieving Vision of 30 Kms a Day 12th February 2015, 09.45 a.m. PHD House, New Delhi Knowledge Partner Associate Sponsor Magazine Partner T he transport sector constitutes 6% of the country's GDP with the roads sector contributing 70% of this share. India has an extensive road network of 4.86 Million kms which is the second largest in the world. More than 60% of freight and 90% of passenger traffic in the country is handled by roads sector. The government of India has launched major initiatives to upgrade and strengthen highways and expressways in the country. The value of roadways and bridge infrastructure in India is expected to reach USD 10 Billion by 2017. The length of National Highways is expected to grow from 92,850 kms in 2013-14 to 100,000 kms by the end of 2017. However, a large number of road projects have been stalled due to delay in land acquisition, forest clearances, defence land handovers and financial difficulties have slowed the pace of road construction to only 3 kms per day. Mr Nitin Gadkari, Hon'ble Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping has set a target to develop 8,500 km of highways in 2014-15 and of constructing 30 kms of national highways every day from 2016 onwards. The use of latest advanced technologies and smooth regulatory mechanism assumes primary significance to achieve these targets in Road Construction. The Government plans to achieve its target through the engineering, procurement and construction mode. On this backdrop, PHD Chamber is organizing a National Conference on “Road Construction in India” - Roadmap for achieving Vision of 30 Kms a Day on 12th February 2015, 09:45 am at PHD House, New Delhi.
