Melody Whitcher – District Governor
Volume 20, Issue #7, January 2015
Good Day, District 44-N Lions,
On November 16th FVDG Bruce Trivellini sent me a
letter stating his wish to resign as the First Vice District
Governor of our district and that he will remain "in good
standing" with his much loved Henniker Lions Club. On
Sunday, November 30 there was a Special Cabinet
Meeting where I announced his resignation. At this
meeting, PDG Henry McKee was voted as our First Vice
District Governor.
Harmony in Service
January
FVDG Elect Henry brings not only his past experiences as

Board of Directors for Twin State Soccer, Orford Leo's
Advisor, and Secretary of the Orford Lions Club.
My visitation schedule for January is
wide open.
Your Cabinet is very pleased to have FVDG Elect Henry
join us as we continue to move forward through this
Lionistic Year.

I will be sending 2 half District 44-N dues
notices to all clubs early in January. The dues
will be billed at $5.22 per each member as
reported to Lions International on December 31.
They are due upon receipt. Two clubs have dues
outstanding from 1st half.
Don’t forget to register for the Multiple District
Convention January 30 – February 1, 2015 at the
Radisson Hotel in Manchester. I believe a
registration form appears in this issue of the
ROAR or you may contact me and I’ll see that
you get one. PCC Celeste, Convention
Chairperson has done a great job arranging an
exciting weekend. Hope to see you there.
I have visited with DG Melody many of the clubs
in the District. My thanks for your wonderful
hospitality and more importantly for all that you
do to bring great service to your communities.
Attention All Clubs
Information on Banners being hung at the MidWinter Convention
Due to configuration of the convention hall and the
possibility of each club being charged a fee to hang
your banner, the convention committee suggests
that you don’t bring your club banner to the
Multiple District Convention this year.
The Convention Committee is as disappointed as
each of you. If there are any changes I will be sure
each of you is notified.

Convention Chairman

Greetings Fellow Lions
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday with
family, friends and your amazing communities.
Have you all ASKED one person to become a
member of Lions? If so, District 44 would like to
induct them at the Mid-Winter Convention. DG
Melody would be honored to induct each new
member into our District – please get the names and
their sponsors name to DG Melody as soon as
possible!
Please make note that our International President
Joe Preston is asking all Lions to join in the Lions
Worldwide Week of Service during the week of
January 10 – 16. This worldwide week is a special
Centennial Service Challenge event which will
bring Lions around the world together for a week of
celebration. It is a great opportunity to showcase
your club and celebrate the birthday of our founder,
Melvin Jones. Host a service project that benefits
youth, vision, hunger or the environment during the
week of January 10 – 16. Make sure to share your
photos on your Facebook and webpage and use the
hashtag #Lions100 and LCI will share your photos
on the LCI Facebook page!
I certainly hope to see MANY of you at the 55th
Mid-Winter Convention held on January 30 –
February 1, 2015 at the Radisson Hotel in
Manchester NH. If you have not registered, please
contact PCC Celeste Ricupero ASAP.

Greetings:
As I’m writing this five days before
Christmas, I am envisioning all of the folks
throughout New Hampshire that are being
helped in some way by you and your fellow
Lions from Salem to Lancaster, Hinsdale to
Portsmouth. On behalf of Multiple District
44 I would like to thank you all for your
dedication and compassion for those that
might be struggling during the holidays.
As we move into January and the second
half of our year I would like to remind you
of our first major event. What could that be?
Oh yes, our 55th Annual Mid Winter
Convention. Our convention will be from
Jan. 30-Feb 1 at the Radisson Hotel in
Manchester. International VP Bob Corlew
and his wife Dianne from Tennessee will be
our guests. I have what I think is a simple
request. Can we have all 79 clubs in the state
be represented this year? I can’t find any
reason why not. Are you telling me that your
club cannot send one Lion to the
Convention? If you would like VP Corlew to
induct a new member of your club let your
District Governor know. If time or finances
are an issue you could come just for the
meetings on Saturday or come and see
George Lyons, a singing Impressionist.
George will be our entertainment on Friday
Night. Let’s have some FUN!
See you at the Convention
Happy New Year!
Respectfully,
MCC Jim Robinson

Weare - Just want to thank everyone who came out to help us have one of our most successful breakfast
with Santa events to date! I was worried that we didn’t have enough signage out on the road, but we had lots
of coverage on social media which brought out the families!! We had Pauline selling her crafts and the
Henniker Lions came down to screen over 50 children! Folks dropped off items for the Weare Food Pantry
and JoAnn managed to corral a few businesses into donating a wreath! Santa was busy handing out candy
canes and Linda Ford got the school open and helped out in the kitchen with so many details! I was able to
get all the food donated for our breakfast too! Our District governor, Melody, stopped by as Mrs. Claus and
her and her Son were great helpers in getting things set up!

Lafayette - Lafayette Lions spent a very busy November and December, with planning Holiday
activities in the Franconia, Easton and Sugar Hill area. Craft shows in the area kept the Lions busy with
food sale, one in November and one in December held in the Lafayette Regional School. Bell ringing at the
local food Co Op provided funding to support the Holiday goodie bag program and provide Christmas for
many families with small children. Gift cards are provided to those with children so parents can purchase
their children their favorite toy as well as a gift card to the local supermarket to help with Christmas dinner
and poinsettias for residence of the local care facility. Most Lions spent time working the projects to
include deliveries of 38 goodie gift bags. We made a contribution to the Birch House, which provides
shelter for those in need. The club is pleased to have 6 additional Lions sense 2013.
Lancaster - We donated over 150 lbs of men's, women's and children's clothing to local organizations.
After reading to the residents of a local nursing home about the settlement of Lancaster, we served them
"Thump", a dish cooked by the early settlers in the 1700's. We joined with the town in celebrating Olde
Tyme Christmas serving our famous foods. Thanks to the donations of local businesses and residents, we
awarded over 80 prizes during our annual Christmas Raffle.
Littleton - Club is now involved with raising funds from ringing the bell at Shaws, TJMaxx
and the
state Liquor. Club donated $100.00 to the Bancroft House, 100 to Granite State Independent Living,
$400.00 to North Country Home Health and Hospice, and $300.78 to David’s House

Looking Back
There were two new Fidelco Guide Dogs placed in New Hampshire in 2014. That’s a $90,000, 30,000
training hour investment. And it’s made a huge difference in the lives of those two people and all the
people around them. The sighted friends and family of those two clients know that they walk safely
and independently wherever they go. The peace of mind goes far beyond the Fidelco client. Aren’t you
proud to have helped make this possible?
Donations to the DogSight Project may be sent to DSP Chair Linda Piekarski, 15 Edgewood Ave,
Keene, NH 03431. Please make checks payable to LSHF with DSP in the memo line. The
independence a guide dog brings to a blind person is priceless. Your contribution gives that gift many
times over. Thank you!
Respectfully submitted,
