VEM WIND ENERGY 1
VEM drive solutions for any application
We at VEM are expert partners for drive engineering, products and services with services ranging from highly sophisticated
system solutions on special drives to individual components from 60 watts to 42 megawatts output. Our manufacturing
depth ensures solutions tailored to specification as well as with short delivery times. Our products, drive solutions and
services secure maximum productivity, reliability and efficiency.
Machines for wind turbines
We build asynchronous and synchronous generators at up to 8 MW as well as brake motors for azimuth and pitch drives
for the wind energy industry. Our supply range for wind turbines extends to low-voltage equipment for hydraulic, lubrication
and cooling units.
Our engineers work closely with our partners from science and research in developing machines centred on individual
user requirements, machines among the most technologically advanced on the market that play a major role in setting the
standards for the product generation in wind power.

A vision taking shape – offshore wind turbines will play a prominent role in the energy supply of the future, and operating
these massive installations at sea reliably and profitably requires outstanding engineering achievement. This applies especially to developing high-output wind generators. We at VEM have first-class expertise in this discipline, as our customers
will testify – you will find our generators in most of the world’s high-performance offshore wind turbines. We have taken a
leading role in the 1.5 to 8 MW output range, and our generators for direct grid coupling – double-fed asynchronous and
high-speed synchronous machines – are also available in high-voltage versions up to 13.8 kV.

Quality testing at VEM
We at VEM place utmost priority on product quality and customer satisfaction – we use in-house test beds and testing
facilities to make sure that our machines meet the quality standards required, and our high-quality engineering and qualified,
experienced staff ensure that test procedures are carried out according to industry standards. We are certified according
to DIN EN ISO 9001 and have extensive experience in testing requirements for a variety of certification organisations in
Germany and across the world.

Technical benefits
Our VPI (vacuum pressure impregnation) technology ensures consistently high insulation resistance in our preformed coils.
Rotor windings in double-fed generators are always designed as medium-voltage coils for high voltage gradients in converter operation, and we only use stainless-steel slip rings for grounding systems to ensure that our VEM wind power
generators will easily meet the specifications for operation in harsh coastal or offshore environments. Redundant grounding
systems and specifically designed bearing insulation ensure safe converter operation. We have a high level of vertical integration to give us the agility and flexibility to respond quickly to customer requirements.
