The University of Zululand subscribes to the principles embedded in the Employment Equity Act FACULTY OF ARTS DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY & DEVELOPMENT STUDIES LECTURER GRADE 8 POSITION NUMBER: AN25 REFERENCE NUMBER: FA2015/02 The main purpose of this position is to assist the Department of Anthropology and Development Studies in achieving its academic goals. Assist in managing programme administration and delivery, student administration and other educational activities. KEY ACTIVITIES TEACHING AND LEARNING Design course outline and provide resources that are necessary to ensure effective and efficient execution of teaching and learning activities. Provide support material to ensure that students participate in their leaning implement teaching and learning policies to daily activities. Form and manage partnerships with the business sector and other stakeholders relevant to the creation of opportunities for internship / Work Integrated Learning (WIL). RESEARCH Develop and contribute to the research strategies of the department which would lead to the enhancement of the departmental and individual research output. Engage in research in the relevant field. Participate in Departmental and other collaborative research projects. Initiative towards publishing articles in refereed journals. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Participate in community outreach projects. Promote community engagement activities within the department. ADMINISTRATION Engage in student administration (admissions, registration, etc.) and other educational activities such as open days, career exhibitions, etc. Manage programme administration and delivery, student administration (admissions, registration, etc.) and other educational activities. Participate in University Committees. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Masters in Anthropology Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the academic sector with a focus on teaching, research and community engagement. Experience in teaching and supervision of postgraduate students at Honours and Masters Level. Experience in establishing and managing stakeholder relationships. Experience in publishing with students. Valid driver’s licence. COMPETENCIES SKILLS Planning and Organising Skills. Computer Literacy (MS Office, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, MS Outlook and ITS) Use of any statistical programme for data analysis e.g. SPSS, etc. Sound Administration Skills. Research Skills KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of Higher Education environment, HEQC, SAQA standards, programme accreditation and articulation requirements and processes.
