Franco Zeffirelli’s lavish production of La
Bohème, Puccini’s moving story of young
love that has become the most performed
opera in Met history stars Italian tenor
Vittorio Grigolo as the poet Rodolfo and
Latvian soprano Kristine Opolais as the
fragile seamstress Mimì. The production
features a cast of hundreds, a spectacular
onstage snow scene, and a detailed
reconstruction of the Latin Quarter in
Paris.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra
presents its second of three Haydn
symphonies for the season. The
“Military” (No. 100) is one of the
composer’s most unique and surprising
works. Pianist Ariel Dechosa returns
to Manila following his superb, last
performance to perform the haunting
and beautiful Concerto in G Major of
Maurice Ravel. To round out the concert

melodies of Sergei Rachmaninov closes
MSO’s “The Sound of Life” 2014-2015
Concert series, with Russian Romanticism
and pianistic virtuosity on display as
Vienna-based Filipino concert pianist Aries
Caces performs Rachmaninov’s fiendishly
difficult Third Piano Concerto (nicknamed
“The Rach 3”). Completing the program and
ending the season on a celebratory note is
one of Rachmaninov’s last compositions,
his Symphonic Dances.

Jonas Kaufmann stars in the title role of
Massenet’s sublime adaptation of Goethe’s
revolutionary and tragic romance, opposite
Sophie Koch as Charlotte. The new
production is directed and designed by
Richard Eyre and Rob Howell, the same
team that created the Met’s recent hit
staging of Carmen. Rising young maestro
Alain Altinoglu conducts. Time: 6:30 PM

Dvorak: Cello Concerto
The principal cellist of the Singapore
Symphony Orchestra, Pei-Sian Ng,
performs the Cello Concerto of Antonin
Dvorak. Mr. Ng has performed all over the
world and was winner of the Gold Medal
and First Prize at the 55th Royal Overseas
League Music Competition in London.
The other work on the program is the
‘Concerto for Orchestra’ of Hungarian
Bela Bartok, which showcases all the
sections of the orchestra in a fun, grownup’s version of the guide to the orchestra.
