Please send a year’s worth of self-addressed, stamped envelopes to: Annual Light Parade The Los Alamos Elks #2083 participated once again in the Annual Holiday Lights Parade held December 6 as part of MainStreet’s WinterFest Weekend. This year’s theme was “Frozen.” Thanks go out to Randy and Gina Smith for donating the truck, materials, and a ton of time to make the float possible. Flag Retirement Ceremony Following the Elks Memorial in December, the Lodge held a Flag Retirment Ceremony. Above left, Eppie Trujillo, Lodge Secretary, and Bob Villa, PER, display an old flag that is ready to be retired. At right, Exalted Ruler Craig Taylor properly disposes of an old flag. Photos by Ben Bouman January Trustees Report . . . My apologizes for missing last month’s Antes. November and December saw a lot of great work done around the Lodge and hopefully I can cover it all in the follow message. Facility Exterior / Grounds: Alan Woodward The drainage upgrades to the north and east side of the Lodge was mostly complete in November. There are a few finishing items to be done but we are holding off on them until we get the new wall built on the north side to begin the new porch. I want to thank all members who helped with the crews on the drainage and I know if I try to remember all the names I will probably miss a few. Please accept my thanks to all who worked and hopefully I was able to give my personal thanks to you over the two days we worked. It was an outstanding turn out and if you missed the opportunity you will get a new chance in the spring when we being the work on the porch area. These roles nicely into my next subject the porch design. Troy Calloway has graciously moved into a leading role for us in the design work. We have engaged an engineer to develop our plans and in the coming weeks you should see the design posted in the Club area. We are looking for feedback from our members, so please feel free to talk to any BOD member if you have suggestions or questions. Our hope is that as soon as the weather permits we will be beginning the work and have this area ready for use by the summer. Personally I am very excited about this new area and I think it will be a great addition to our facility. Facility Interior: Natalie Dimitruck Natalie has been busy with the Elk’s Christmas Tree program for the last couple of months and understandable has had to pull back a bit from the interior issues at the Lodge. If you see her please give her a huge Thank You for all the planning and coordination she has done for us. We have been able to support 90+ kids and I believe at least one family. You should be proud of the work our membership does for the community, especially during this holiday season. You will also notice if you come into the Lodge that the flooring in the club and lodge room have been freshly polished and look outstanding. Again a big thanks to TSAY Corporation for the work they do for us each year at this time. Please be aware during the winter months as you enter the Lodge to remove as much dirt/snow/mud as possible before coming on to our club and lodge flooring to give us as much lifetime as possible from this work. Budget and other issues: Kirk Hollis We will be looking at the budget in detail this month as we are at the ¾ mark of our year. I think we will only need minor adjustment to set ourselves for the year end closing. Thanks to all of you who are supporting the club and please continue so we can meet our budget for the club income. As I will not get an opportunity to remind everyone of the PER dinner in January before the next Antes, please look at the announcement in this month’s Antes for the date and time. As I have mentioned in the past year the BOD has made it a priority this year to revive interest in the Memorial Trust that the Lodge has. We have reinvested the funds this year to improve our return. In the coming weeks you will be receiving in the mail a flier from the BOD with specific details on how you can become a part of this Trust. Please take the time to look it over and if you have any question the BOD will be present at the PER dinner (or at any time) to answer any questions you may have. We believe this Trust is a great resource for our organization and its future. Hopefully you will feel the same and become an active part of its growth. On the first meeting in January the BOD will be recommending to the floor the approval of $1000.00 to be added to the funds on behalf of all our members to get this process started. Let’s see what we can all do together to begin to make this a resource for our Lodge. The BOD’s wishes everyone a happy and safe Holiday Season. We are looking forward to the coming year and are optimistic about the continued growth we hope to be seeing for our Lodge.
