ZUNAR “To Fight Through Cartoons” “How can I be neutral? Even my pen has a stand!” Muslim. Cartoonist. Arrested for Sedition. Defender of Freedom of Expression. A Muslim and satirical cartoonist of international standing, Zunar has used his cartoons to attack corruption, the abuse of power, police brutality, violations of human rights, and misuse of public funds. He will be speaking on freedom of expression in the light of the post-Charlie Hebdo scenarios in both the Western and the Islamic worlds. In Malaysia, Zunar is persecuted for his cartoons. He was arrested and charged with sedition on 10 September 2010. In 2011, the Cartoonist Rights Network International in Washington conferred him the “Courage in Editorial Cartooning Award”. The talk will be preceded by a screening of a documentary on Zunar, “Fight Thru Cartoon”, at 4.30pm. The talk will commence at 5pm. All are welcome.
