BEUC, The European Consumer Organisation, is looking to recruit a full-time
Legal Officer
BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, is looking for an officer to work on EU legal
issues relevant to consumers to assist the BEUC Secretariat and our members in
campaigning to influence EU policies.
The duties of the Legal Officer would include the following:
providing intelligence, information and advice to BEUC and BEUC members;
working in two policy teams with a focus on digital policies with a particular focus on
data protection and on general consumer rights topics, including enforcement policy;
 preparing consultation and position papers for BEUC members and external
audiences;
 representing BEUC and its members in conferences, seminars, committees, etc.;
 maintaining and developing contacts with EU officials, MEPs, Permanent
Representations and other stakeholders.


The main qualifications we are looking for are:









a Master’s degree in law;
professional background as a lawyer and 3 years post-qualification experience;
thorough theoretical and practical understanding of the EU policy process;
good knowledge of EU policies related to the EU’s digital agenda, in particular data
protection as well as on the EU consumer acquis, enforcement and redress;
ability to represent BEUC in meetings and conferences;
excellent communication and lobbying skills;
a proven interest in understanding and articulating the consumer interest;
good organisational skills;
ability to write and communicate extremely well in English, good knowledge of French
would be an advantage.
