Brad Copithorne ­ Vice President @ Renew Fund Brad Copithorne is Vice President of Commercial PACE Programs at Renewable Funding. He is responsible for developing low­cost financing solutions with streamlined underwriting that allow commercial property owners to invest in money­saving energy efficiency and renewable generation projects.Prior to joining Renewable Funding, Brad spent four years at Environmental Defense Fund, an environmental advocacy organization. While at Lehman Brothers and Prudential Securities, he structured over $8 billion in financings for healthcare clients in the US. Most recently, Joe was Managing Director of Capital Markets for Jones Lang LaSalle and founder of Duke Healthcare Capital. Adam Feldman ­ Director @ GSSG Solar Adam manages GSSG’s deal closing process as well as all real estate activities. Adam has overseen the successful debt and equity closings for distributed generation and utility scale projects in the U.S. and works closely with the GSSG team and partners to ensure smooth transaction processes in all active GSSG solar markets. Adam was Senior Manager of Finance & Investment within the Global Special Situations Group at SunEdison where he managed the closing process of a $100MM+ utility­scale solar project that utilized a prepayment, and co­lead efforts into solar asset securitization. Prior to focusing on energy, Adam spent six years with a real­estate hedge fund in Southern California in fund origination and several years before that with Bedford Property Investors completing over $50MM in acquisitions and developments. Adam holds a FINRA Series 7 securities license, received his BA in Business Economics from UCLA and received an MBA from Presidio School of Management. Ty Jagerson ­ CEO @ Village Power Ty Jagerson is CEO of Village Power Finance, a solar development and finance platform for community organizations like universities, churches, schools, towns and local businesses (www.villagepower.com). Ty was previously President of HelioPower, an integrated renewable energy solutions company with over 3000 systems installed. Ty has over 15 years of experience in renewable energy, technology development and finance. Stephan Ouaknine – Managing Partner @ Inerjys Ventures Stephan Ouaknine is founder and Managing Partner of Inerjys. A proven entrepreneur and investor, Stephan has been a visionary leader across multiple technology sectors, from clean technology to telecommunications. His career has spanned three high­tech ventures, creating significant shareholder value with three successful exits. Stephan founded Inerjys with the insight that new deployment approaches and proven technologies could overcome the challenges of the cleantech sector and power a better tomorrow. Stephan is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, the TED community, and a recipient of the Annual Honoree Award from the Canadian Technion Society. Daniel Kammen – Distinguished Professor of Energy @ University of California, Berkeley Dr. Kammen is the Class of 1935 Distinguished Professor of Energy at UC Berkeley, with parallel appointments in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy, and the department of Nuclear Engineering. Kammen is the founding director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL), Co­Director of the Berkeley Institute of the Environment, and Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center. He has founded or is on the board of over 10 companies, and has served the State of California and US federal government in expert and advisory capacities. Dr. Kammen was educated in physics at Cornell and Harvard, and held postdoctoral positions at the California Institute of Technology and Harvard. He was Assistant Professor and Chair of the Science, Technology and Environmental Policy Program at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University before moving to the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Kammen has served as a contributing or coordinating lead author on various reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change since 1999. The IPCC shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He serves on the Advisory Committee for Energy & Environment for the X­Prize Foundation. During 2010­2011 Kammen served as the World Bank Group’s Chief Technical Specialist for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. He was appointed to this newly­created position in October 2010, in which he provided strategic leadership on policy, technical, and operational fronts. He has written extensively and also served for many years on the Technical Review Board of the Global Environment Facility. He is a frequent contributor to or commentator in international news media, including Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Financial Times. Matt Coleman – EVP Project Development @ Clean Focus Matt Coleman leads renewable­energy project origination, development and underwriting at Clean Focus. He has underwritten or invested in renewable­energy projects and companies for the past 11 years. Most recently Matt co­founded and managed The Clean Energy Fund, at one time the largest renewable­energy­focused hedge fund for individual investors and family offices in New York and California. Previously, he helped launch Soliant Energy, a leading concentrating PV (CPV) technology company. Before Soliant, Matt consulted for Competitive Energy Insight (CEI), where he evaluated and advised clients on power projects for schools, commercial, and industrial facilities. Prior to CEI, he was part of the underwriting team at RealEnergy, an independent builder, owner, and operator of distributed generation. RealEnergy was the first third­party financer of solar power in 2001, an innovator of third­party PPAs, and helped re­shape the renewable­energy incentive structure and interconnection process in California. Matt is a CFA Charterholder, and he earned a BA in Environmental Science from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Ed Church – Executive Director @ Institute for Environmental Entrepreneurship Over the past 30 years, Edward Church has had wide­ranging experience in government, nonprofits and private business. Ed has served as the Executive Director of IEE since 2007. The Institute created and manages the Sustainable Enterprise Cluster at the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley, where many of the world’s leading environmental organizations are housed. The Cluster is composed of 12 small organizations and consultants. IEE also created the Green MBA program at Dominican University in San Rafael, California and does "R&D on the Triple Bottom Line," evaluating, measuring, refining and elaborating how the interaction of People, Planet, Prosperity define our lives together on Earth. They conduct applied research on urban sustainability, and facilitate formulation of productive policies and practices. Ed Church received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. Stephen H. Leist – Managing Partner @ Piedmont Partners Group Ventures, LLC Stephen manages both Piedmont Partners Group Ventures, LLC, a private equity firm very active in the cleantech space, and PPG, LP a family office that invests broadly. PPGV's offices are adjacent to SFunCube, the Solar Incubator where he contributes time to working with start­ups in the sector. He spent 20 years inside investment banks in Asia and the US. He ran the Asia Pacific Equity Sales and Marketing functions for Salomon/Citigroup from 1999 to 2001, after stints at Morgan Stanley, UBS and Deutsche Bank. From 2005 through 2007 he built Merriman Curhan Ford’s asset management division as the group’s Chief Operating Officer. She was a stockbroker for many years at Charles Schwab and Merrill Lynch. Michael Fakukakis – President and CEO @ Mechatron Solar Inc. President/CEO and founder of Mechatron Solar Inc., a solar tracker manufacturer that develops and sells a complete series of trackers with innovative rotation technology. The company is offering a unique technology proposition to power utilities, solar systems developers, EPCs and private investors to build solar farms with the highest financial returns in the international solar market. He has over 22 years of professional experience on Internet technologies, telecommunications and solar technologies. Bright Plain’s current portfolio includes contracted solar projects in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Rhode Island. Prior to transitioning to the acquisition side, Katie worked as a developer, project manager, and financial transaction manager at Boulder­based Main Street Power Company, and later in project finance at Tioga Energy. We power the back­end compliance technology for numerous broker­dealers, portals and others who make a business of online formation pursuant to rule Titles II and III of the JOBS Act. He is an active Board member of the Crowdfunding Intermediary Regulatory Association (CFIRA) and the author of the book “The Definitive Guide to Equity and Debt Crowdfunding” as well as the “Industry Best Practices for Funding Portals”. He is the author of CFIRA’s position on “BD and Registered Portal Regulatory Mechanics” and has been an active editor and co­author of numerous other industry papers. As the nascent crowdfunding industry takes shape, Scott brings considerable experience in both securities and internet technology. In 1988 he founded a trust company that managed fixed income instruments for institutional investors, which he sold to a regional bank and built to over $1 billion in assets. Scott also started a bond trading desk, a clearing firm for institutional investors, and published a book “The Guide to Fixed Income Investing”. In 1994 he founded Epoch Networks, one of the world’s first ISP’s, and raised over $60 million in venture capital. As a founding Board member of the Commercial Internet eXchange (CIX), he often represented the nascent industry before Congress and the FCC. In 1999 Scott founded OnAir Networks, raised over $40 million in venture capital and built the first music storage, streaming and downloading services for Sony and Universal. During this time he was retained by the Recording Industry Association of America to advise them on internet technology issues and copyright matters, and to represent the industry before Congress. Elena F. Lucas – CEO at UtilityAPI Elena is co­founder and CEO of UtilityAPI, a SaaS company that automatically and instantly collects utility customer bill and usage data for the new energy economy. UtilityAPI provides the data that solar companies need to sell solar faster. Elena has leveraged her extensive connections in the solar industry to get the UtilityAPI service into the hands of some of the top solar companies. She has utility finance experience and is on the board of Women in Cleantech and Sustainability. Prior experience includes utility scale wind development, research on EV charging station adoption, and policy analysis of Net Energy Metering. She holds a Master’s of International Economics with a focus on econometrics and energy policy from UC San Diego.
