The “Dharma Raj Jewelers” is located in sector-11 of Kamothe in Mahadev apartment buildings and is owned by Sunil Chandalal Soni (24). A week before, two men had rented a shop adjacent to the jewelry shop and opened up a fruit market at the place. They had kept an eye on all the shops in the vicinity and had come to know that the jewelry shop was weekly closed on Fridays. With this information, the duo broke down the wall of the shop when it was closed on Friday and looted 954gms of gold and 14 kgs of silver by breaking down the shop’s safe with a gas cutter. As the store was monitored with CCTV cameras, the duo smartly took off all the cameras as well as CDR leaving the police clueless about their identity. As the duo didn’t particularly interact with the Jewelry store owner or leave any evidence on the crime sight or the rented shop, Kamothe police are yet to identify the burglars. From the investigation it is known that the thieves had rented the shop on Rs 25 thousand, intent on stealing the jewelry store besides it. Kamothe police have registered a complaint of burglary against the two accused. The hair-raising murder of a 21 year old woman whose body was discovered washed up near the banks of Satsole creek on Palm Beach road on January has finally been identified by the police. The deceased woman, now identified as Nagmabanu Shahidali Quereshi (21) was found dead with her throat cut and her face disfigured by acid, most probably to keep her identity hidden, on 3rd January. Therefore, Thane police had been investigating the case in order to identify the woman. Meanwhile, the woman relatives living in Bengawadi area of Govandi had filed a missing persons report for Nagma in Devnar police station as missing from 3rd January. Due to the coincidence of the dates, the relatives were sent to Navi Mumbai in order to check the body, where they identified the dead body as being Nagma’s. Even though the woman’s identity has been disclosed, the reason for murder or the culprit has not been caught yet. The police, however, strongly suspect the victim’s husband to be behind the murder. The match witnessed some high voltage moves, thrilling moments and a nail biting finish which left the spectators wanting for more from the star boy Tom Boon and Legend Jamie Dwyer. The 60 minute game shifted gear with every goal scored but was drawn at the end at 3-3, as both the teams did not allow the other to walk away with a win in today’s electrifying match. Dabang Mumbai having the better say in the first quarter, scored the first goal in the 7th minute and which came from the stick of the young Harmanpreet Singh who successfully converted the penalty corner that the team got, leaving the Warriors surprised. In the entire first session while Jaypee Punjab Warriors created opportunities for themselves, the host team successfully managed to keep the opponents at bay and refrained them from equalizing till the end of the second quarter. Japyee Punjab Warriors however started the third quarter with aggression and drew parity through Captain Jamie Dywer who scored an unbelievable field goal in the 32nd minute. Half way through the third quarter, Jamie managed a good deflection towards the goal post but was brilliantly saved by Mumbi Dabang goalkeeper David Harte . Coming into play again the Dabang Mumbai goalie saved yet again in the very next minute, giving Jaypee Punjab Warriors a tough time to get through him. With the fourth and final quarter set to being the decider session for the game both the teams came back into the field with a determination to win. It was finally Chinglensana Singh in the 50th minute went through the defence of Japyee Punjab Warriors and scored a field goal. This allowed the hosts to take the lead and the game went in their favor 2-1. This got Jaypee Punjab Warriors on the backfoot but they knew there was still 10 minutes left in the game and they could still turn it around. Post winning a penalty corner in the 56th minute Jaypee Punjab Warriors was awarded a penalty stroke in their name. CMYK CMYK 6 [email protected] 26 January, 2015 www.newsband.in Issue : 224 26 January, 2015 Need of positive agrarian outlook India is home to the world’s largest number of farmers, as also the largest number of people who face food insecurity. Hence a positive agrarian outlook is required. In the recent days, India has emerged as a leading exporter of agricultural products. This is owing to the rise in public investment in agriculture, massive increase in credit flows and upgradation of rural infrastructure. India must promote sustainable practices like organic farming, application of bio fertilizers and bio pesticides. At the same time farmers should get remunerative price for produce and consumers should not be made to pay more to the retailer and also there is need of amending Agricultural Produce Market Committee act and increasing of cold storage facility to reduce wastages. Water management and ecosystem conservation is essential for both environmental sustainability and agricultural production. Rich farmers use inorganic methods to grow crops in India while marginal farmers use organic methods. So they do not get the price they are supposed to get. India is an exporter of foodgrain commodities. Since India is a very vast country, campaign is needed for creating awareness among farmers as well as other citizens about the need of sustainable agriculture and enabling them to explore the new agricultural methods. Ordinary farmer should have access to standard and cheap storage facilities so that he need not be at the mercy of the market agencies at the time of a lucky harvest. Now at the time of harvest, bulk buyers join hands to reduce prices of the products which they later hoard for undue benefits and profits. On the eve of every election, political parties cunningly grant some aids to the farmers which look like peripherally an aid but end up in destroying our agricultural possibilities. India has more natural resources and high manpower to achieve good agricultural growth. But yet one of the biggest problems faced by farmers from different parts of the country is sterility of good agriculture land due extensive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The government should look into this matter and encourage farmers to use bio-fertilizers and methods prescribed by agricultural universities like organic farming. Irradiation as developed by BARC more than 60 years ago was successfully done on onions, potatoes and mangoes extensively. This method is not only safe but improves resistance to pests, delays ripening and other benefits. Why have we been sleeping on this very vital research already done and proved successful? The future depends on the introduction of new methods for increasing productivity and quality as also better storage facilities. The other technology should also be impartially and scientifically assessed and should not be rejected although they are developed by foreign companies. If these BT products are safe and improves the quality and productivity of the product with better resistance to pests etc these products must be introduced to meet the increased demand. We need better technology and no politics in such innovations. With just a minute left for the final whistle to blow, Jaypee Punjab Warriors got the chance to take the lead through a penalty corner opportunity. Sandeep Singh yet again he did not commit any any mistake and converted, helping the team to take the lead to 3-2. Here it seemed Jaypee Punjab Warriors had the game in their kitty but Dabang Mumbai’s Chinglensana threw the surprise by scoring a brilliant field goal in the dying seconds and tied the match at 3-3. Speaking post the draw Head Coach Valentin Altenburg said “It was a huge finish by Chinglensana today and we believe we can come back in the next match. Both Harmanpreet and Chinglensana played brilliant games and David did a great job in protecting our goal. I think Chinglensana realizes that he is so strong post his goals today. We played against a well built composed team and they gave us a tough time. I was not satisfied as we did not do a great job in protecting our circle and there were many circle penetrations. The first goal scored by JPW was a brilliant goal and we also did a good job in not allowing them the penalty corner conversions. For the game against Ranchi Rays we have to work on our defence. Ranchi Rays is a strong team and we really have to get our defence together.” Commenting on the draw, Head Coach Barry Dancer, Jaypee Punjab Warriors said “It was a good game and the boys came back well. We played well and they played well too. Thankfully we played good in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Mumbai team was good in the first half and they were unlucky later on. We didn’t control some of the better players of the Mumbai team but we aim to be better in our next game. They won the first half and we won the second half”. Cont. from pg. 3 men fail to stop the train in spite of their applying brakes the moment they spot the victim. At Vashi railway tracks itself there has been a large number of deaths of commuters who were crossing the tracks and even those who were hanging out of the train and fell outside all of a sudden. Only a few involved in such accidents managed to escape death but they did sustain serious injuries. Most of the railway accidents occur on VashiMankhurd, Juinagar-Nerul, Panvel-Khandeshwar, Belapur-Seawoods routes and hence the railways are trying to focus most of their attentions along these routes particularly while creating precautionary measures to prevent such accidents. These accidents occur in spite of the efforts put in by railway officials to create awareness among the railway commuters the dangers of crossing tracks or hanging out of the railway trains. These officials have even gone to the extent of pasting posters and making regular announcements asking the commuters not to trespass or jump out of moving trains. The problem is railways are not staffed to the extent where they can supervise all the tracks. Hence certain violations of laws by the commuters escape their notice thus resulting in accidents. During the last week or so there was flooding on the road and it has entered the compound of our building (Om Saidham Co Op Housing Society Ltd, Plot No. 40 Sector 17, Vashi, Navi Mumbai-400703). During the night, the nulla’s dirty water reaches the road and then spreads from www.newsband.in Raymond showroom area to all the other roads. It is acute around our building and enters in huge quantity in our compound. This phenomenon started after expanding/ construction of the storm water drainage system a year ago or so, which we had pointed out but this problem was continued to be ignored by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation which did not care to take Board Of Cricketing Controversies In India Board game is as good as over. All along, the BCCI in the name of conducting gentleman’s game of cricket did all the wrongs and still escaped punishment. Despite the team doing badly overseas, the same players and the captain get preference over other deserving candidates. Supreme Court bowled a googly and a yorker at the same time, barring BCCI chief-in-exile N Srinivasan from contesting election to the board’s top post and bringing the world’s richest cricket body under the ambit of public scrutiny. It directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India to hold the election within six weeks after restraining Srinivasan from the exercise as long as he continued to own Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings because the dual role pointed to a “conflict of interest”. The court made it clear that conflict of interest arose because Srinivasan was the BCCI president, the owner of Chennai Super Kings and the father-inlaw of Gurunath Meiyappan, who is facing charges of betting and spot-fixing in the sixth edition of the IPL. The ruling put an end to the free run the BCCI enjoyed on the pretext of being a private entity. The court called the board a public body discharging public functions because it is the official selector of the national cricket team. The BCCI would be amenable to the writ jurisdiction of high courts under Article 226 even when it was not ‘State’ within the meaning of Article 12 of the Constitution, the court added. This means, a common man can drag the all-powerful BCCI to court for any alleged misdeed. It could also come under the purview of the RTI act. Unhappy with the BCCI’s opaque style of functioning, the court asked the panel to suggest measures to revamp it within six months, to streamline its election process and to bring institutional integrity. The ruling came on a petition filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar asking the court to restrain Srinivasan from holding the BCCI president’s post in the wake of the betting scandal involving his son-in-law. Thus we can call BCCI, Board of Cricketing Controversies in India and the name is well truly maintained by the Presidents of the Board as a well knit unit and now the truth is coming out in the open. - Calicut Krishnan Ramani, Vashi CMYK 7 any action in this direction. We are afraid that the space around our building might get flooded like creek. There are technical problems and bad works done by NMMC. On one side they warn residents about water spillage that can be caused even by washing vehicles. They warn that such water might contain Dengue fever but they are not bothered about dirty nulla water entering all around sector 17 area which is threatening the health of the people. It looks like as if nobody from civic officials are bothered about this. K.
