Bring your family and friends to this powerful experience of Christ’s love on Sunday, February 8, from 7:00PM—8:30PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N. Lapeer Rd., Lake Orion. www.awakenministry.org ADORATION 101 “His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ “ (John 2:5) In the next few Adoration 101 articles I am going to present some practical ways of discernment while before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. All of us are faced with choices in life; some are great, life-changing choices and others are more insignificant. Nevertheless, life is a matter of choosing. God has given us free will to choice to do the good, loving Him by doing His will. Within His will is lasting happiness. Discerning what His will is can be a crucial, difficult and oftentimes, a painful process; especially when the choice we are to make is big. So why discernment before the Blessed Sacrament? In laymen’s terms, discernment before the Blessed Sacrament is like hitting the fast-forward button. To be face-to-face with the One who knows what is best for our lives and what will bring us peace is altogether obvious. However, we must be absolutely certain we desire to do His will alone. Otherwise, the choice we make will be as if building our house (the decision we make) on sand, as our Lord taught us. Once opposition or any road blocks take place, we run the risk of everything collapsing and we’re left wondering where we went wrong. So the first lesson in discernment before the Blessed Sacrament is a firm amendment to want to do God’s will. We cannot hide any secret motive or intention of our own. This is critical. To be His instrument we must be completely pliable in His hands. Very often, doing God’s will can be scary at first, I admit, because it’s traveling towards the unknown based solely on trust, and usually causes us to climb outside our comfort zone. However, over time you will learn that each experience He gives you is one of exhilaration and true satisfaction. In time, you’ll long to do whatever He tells you, as our Lady did, and you will realize that you truly are a light to the world. – Paul A.
