Because electric cars are taking an evolutionary development path, combustion engines have retained their dominant position as the power source for cars and commercial vehicles. As a result, they are continuing to set the pace of development for mobility solutions with low CO2 and exhaust gas emissions. In order to achieve the ambitious environmental targets that have been set, all the engine’s components, systems and functions must be further improved and adapted to meet increasingly complex requirements within the overall system. Against the background of these development activities, ATZlive and VDI Wissensforum are staging the second International Engine Congress. Once again, the lectures given during the course of the two-day event will focus solely on combustion engines, looking indepth at areas such as engine mechanical systems, oil supply, mixture formation and combustion, together with reductions in internal and external emissions. In order to ensure a long-term reduction in emissions, the technical solutions must be reliable when in use by end customers and their functions must be monitored. For this reason, we will be covering on-board diagnostics (OBD) in a specially arranged series of lectures. Another key subject area is commercial vehicle engines. In order to give the commercial vehicle industry a “home”, we are turning these sessions into a separate conference within the congress. To broaden our perspective, we will also be focusing on the development of fuels and evaluating solutions from the field of engine research. This new congress has been jointly developed by the leading organizers of automotive congresses in the German-speaking region: ATZlive and VDI Wissensforum. The first event was staged successfully in 2014 and around 380 people attended. In 2015 the structure will be similar to that of the 2014 congress. On the morning of the first day, the keynote lectures will take place and then the congress will divide into three parallel sessions (two on car engine technology and one on OBD in passenger cars and commercial vehicles). In the afternoon, a panel made up of prominent members of the engine community will hold a discussion. On both days, the commercial engine experts will take part in parallel sessions with keynote lectures and technical presentations. immer weniger Chancen für Alternativen Antriebskonzepte Prof. Dr. Friedrich eines Indra, Honorarprofessor und Sportwagenherstellers Berater Wolfgang Hatz, Mitglied des Vorstands – F & E, Dr. Ing. h.c. eines F.
