Kirby Pine Collection Kirby Pine Collection Our solid yellow pine furniture is perfect for settings that demand ultra durability. The product has evolved over the years to be more “finished” than the original crate style furniture developed back in the late 70’s. Currently the wood selected is a better grade, more time is spent sanding and the finish is more uniform. With this being noted, the product is still characterized as rustic, durable and function furniture. Southern Yellow Pine is known for its density, strength and beauty. Houses, including roof trusses, are made of this material in construction grade. Furniture grade is selected to have few knots and have a grain pattern that is unique. We buy only furniture grade pine that is hand selected specifically for commercial and residential furniture. Unlike most furniture, our pine group is made primarily of solid wood. The only components that are not solid wood are cabinet backs, drawer bottoms and laminate tops. To ensure a square cabinet, we also include a ¾” base panel to help prevent racking and add to the longevity of our furniture. All of our drawer divider stiles are angle screwed from beneath into the side panels to add superior structure to the cabinets. We have also elected to leave our drawer runners wood to wood rather than introducing a metal drawer guide system to reduce the maintenance requirements. The backs of our solid wood drawers are elevated and stop as the back makes contact with the drawer stile preventing the drawer from falling from the cabinet. Drawer bottoms are captured in all four sides and the backs are structural members. Our pine furniture is stained a medium golden oak and finished with three coats of quality finish. This feature allows for ease of cleaning and prevents water stains from occurring. The finish improves the appearance over furniture that is only stained. Our products are finish sanded, stained with a NGR, sealed, hand sanded, sprayed with a top coat, hand sanded and sprayed once more with a second top coat. It is very laborious, but it offers a value added solution to our customers in addition to the improved appearance. We strive to deliver a great product that will last for years and years and is rated the best value for our customers.
