Wilton Pony Club riders win
ribbons at Know-Down Rally
Eleven members of Wilton Pony
Club kicked off the 2001 season by
competing in Know-Down, the first
Regional Rally of the >car, held on
March 3 at Cold Spring Harbor High
School on Long Island.
Wilton Pony Club members come
from Wilton and the neighboring
towns of Ridgcfield, Westport. and
,Lcwisboro. N.Y.
; Pony Club teams from the entire
Metropolitan
Region of New
York L o n g Island and Southern
Connecticut answered horse-related
questions, from proper feeding,
shoeing and grooming to safety and
health care, presented in a multiple
choice format. This unmounted
competition illustrates the United
States Pony Club's emphasis on
teaching all aspects of the proper
care of horses, and not just the
horseback riding.
In divisions grouped by age and
club rating, Wilton Pony Club teams
placed as follows:
Junior D: Second place (Sam
Sedgwick. Elizabeth Salsgiver,
Lauren Merkley and Erica Hill);
Junior D: Fourth place (Imogen
de Lavis. Lily Mucci and Carly
Fink);
Senior D: Third place tJ a c o ,ui

and Karen Kiely).

United States Pony Clubs, Inc.,
formed in 1953, is part of a nonprofit, worldwide organization that
encourages young people of all ages
to ride and enjoy all kinds of sports
connected with horses. The term
'pony' reflects.the age of the members, rather than the size of the
mount. Horses and ponies of all
breeds, shapes, and sizes are seen in
Pony Club activities, which provide
instruction in riding and horse care
while promoting the highest ideals
of teamwork, sportsmanship and citizenship.

Sweitzer was 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.80) and 20th in the 200
breast (2:30.58). while Ben Pruc
was 20th in the 1650-yard freestyle
(18:19.98).

Baseball camp June 18-22
The Wilton Warriors Baseball
Camp, sponsored by the Wilton
Parks and Recreation Department,
will be held June 18-22 at the Wilton
High School varsity baseball field.
The camp, which runs from 8:30
a.m. to 1 2:30 p.m.. is open to players
in grades 3-8. Instructors include
WHS varsity head coach Tim Eagen,
WHS JV head coach Kevin Welch.
Women's softball

The Ridgcfield Women's Softball
Association is looking for players

at Stepping Stone Farm - in ..
Ridgcfield. Classes start April 17.
Lessons are available for p r e - ;
school (ages 3-6), youth and adult
riders. Riders will be placed in
beginner, advanced beginner or
intermediate classes based on experience.
The eight-week pre-school program costs S300. The eight-week
youth and adult programs cost $350.
Private lessons are also available.
