Dallas Cup XXX: Thursday, April 9 Visit to SMU We were back to our regular routine this morning, dining on the buffet breakfast at the Crowne Plaza. We all love those biscuits! In the late morning we trained at SMU and were given a tour of the sports facilities by Kevin Hudson, an assistant coach with the Men’s Soccer program. SMU is a private university of 11,000 students near the center of Dallas offering strong undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs through seven schools — the humanities and sciences; business; the performing, visual, and communication arts; engineering; education and human development; law; and theology. Kevin Hudson & Norman Mejia They have a Division One soccer program playing in a conference with Tulsa, Memphis, South Carolina, Marshall, UAB, UCF, Kentucky and Florida International. They recruit 6-10 freshmen per year. Thursday, April 9 Page 1 We trained on the Westcott Field, and toured the Loyd All-Sports Center which housed the trophies, the locker room and the Salvino Strength & Conditioning room. Thursday, April 9 Page 2 We concluded our tour by visiting the 33,000 seat football stadium and watching a highlight video of the SMU soccer team in action. On a lighter note, Kevin shared with us two important stats concerning SMU: (1) their coeds are ranked #4 by Playboy magazine, and (2) their dance program is #2 in the country behind Julliard. Both “Man-about-Town” Phil and “Twinkle Toes” Tusaazemaja were intrigued by (1) and (2), respectively. Here’s the ladder for the U16 Dallas Cup playoffs. Thursday, April 9 Page 3
