Candlelight Dinner Theatre:
(Sign up by Tuesday, February 3rd)
The big hit musical, winner of eight
Tony Awards, that will sweep you
away to 1960s Baltimore where the ’50s are
“so out” and change is in the air. Hairspray is
a blockbuster winner with laughter, romance,
and deliriously tuneful songs. Queen-sized
teen Tracy Turnblad, who has all the right
moves, turns her passion for dancing into
a spot on the local TV dance program.
Transformed into an overnight teen celebrity,
Tracy teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two
about integration and fair play. Watch as a
larger-than-life adolescent vanquishes the
reigning princess and her conniving mother,
singing and dancing her way to her true love —
all without mussing her perfectly coiffed hair.
Those who sign up from The Winslow are
scheduled to enjoy lunch and watch Hairspray
at The Candlelight Dinner Playhouse on
Sunday, February 8th, at 12:00pm.
On Thursday, February 12th, at 11:30 am,

in Old Town Fort Collins. Rare is one of the
newer Old Town restaurants featuring Italianstyle entrees and more. There is an opportunity
to share meals and order half portions at the
restaurant if you don’t want a large meal. After
the meal, we will walk down the block to browse
at Pendleton. Please plan on approximately 3
hours for this outing.

RED
HATTERS
OUT ING
Winslow Red Hatters Group: Lunch and Laughter
Event - Thursday, February 19th, at 11:30am
“Your sense of humor is one of the most
powerful tools you have to make certain that
your daily mood and emotional state support
good health.” ~ Paul E. McGhee, Ph.D.
This month, the Red Hatters will enjoy their
monthly gathering here at The Winslow with a
special Lunch and Laughter Event. Red Hatter
members will gather in the Activity where
there will enjoy lunch items from 11:30amnoon. Then, at noon, Jill Taylor from the
Aspen Club will be in to lead the members in
a laughter seminar. They say “laughter is the
best medicine” and here’s why…
Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring
laughter is far more contagious than any
cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is
shared, it binds people together and increases
happiness and intimacy. Laughter also triggers
healthy physical changes in the body. Humor
and laughter strengthen your immune system,
boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect
you from the damaging effects of stress. Best
of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and
easy to use.
The Winslow’s Red Hatters Group gathers
once a month for an outing or event; it is a
fun-filled afternoon to say the least. There
is no charge to join the group. The only
requirements are purple clothes, a red hat,
and a desire to have fun. If you would like
to join, or if you have additional questions,
please contact Ruthie.
Come and get to know Breanna and Elsy a
little bit better at Milk and Cookies with Elsy
and Breanna on Thursday, February 5th, at
1:00pm in the Winslow Hall.

Mardi Gras, also Fat Tuesday in English,
refers to events of the Carnival celebrations,
beginning on or after the Epiphany or King’s
Day and culminating on the day before Ash
Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat
Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last
night of eating richer, fatty foods before the
ritual fasting of the Lenten season.
The traditional colors of New Orleans’ Mardi
Gras are purple, green, and gold. All three
colors were used by the Catholic Church
throughout history and thus continued to be
used in relation to Mardi Gras, which was
Catholic in origin.

colored donuts on Tuesday, February 17th, at
1:00pm in the Activity Room.

A Visit to Tell Others About
Thursday, February 5th, at 10:30am
An aspiring writer whose works of fiction
never captured the reading public’s
fancy nevertheless wrote and published
voluminously. Bayard Taylor traveled the world
and Horace Greeley published his descriptive
tales of people and place. In the summer
of 1866, the young Territory of Colorado
became Taylor’s next destination; and for three
months his journey across plains, foothills, and
mountains captured the American imagination.

Kevin Cook Presents: Writing Colorado Series
Writing Colorado, a year-long series, features
twelve writers whose books reveal the
essential character of this state we call
home. Colorado’s landscapes and lifescapes
inspired many writers in the last two and a

some came and stayed; some did not become
writers until they lived here a while. Their
words, living long after they disappear, yet
speak of yesterday’s Colorado that we might
more clearly understand the Colorado of today.

there will enjoy lunch items from 11:30amnoon. Then, at noon, Jill Taylor from the
Aspen Club will be in to lead the members in
a laughter seminar. They say “laughter is the
best medicine” and here’s why…
Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring
laughter is far more contagious than any
cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is
shared, it binds people together and increases
happiness and intimacy. Laughter also triggers
healthy physical changes in the body. Humor
and laughter strengthen your immune system,
boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect
you from the damaging effects of stress. Best
of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and
easy to use.
The Winslow’s Red Hatters Group gathers
once a month for an outing or event; it is a
fun-filled afternoon to say the least. There
is no charge to join the group. The only
requirements are purple clothes, a red hat,
and a desire to have fun. If you would like
to join, or if you have additional questions,
please contact Ruthie.
Come and get to know Breanna and Elsy a
little bit better at Milk and Cookies with Elsy
and Breanna on Thursday, February 5th, at
1:00pm in the Winslow Hall.

Groundhog Day: February 2nd
Will we have six more weeks of winter?
According to folklore, if it is cloudy when
the groundhog emerges from its burrow
on this day, then spring will come early; if
it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly
see its shadow and retreat back into
its burrow, and the winter weather will
continue for six more weeks.

provide residents with an opportunity to
purchase personal alcohol. This month’s trip

Ladies Lunch & Shopping:
Rare and Pendleton
Candlelight Dinner Theatre:
(Sign up by Tuesday, February 3rd)
The big hit musical, winner of eight
Tony Awards, that will sweep you
away to 1960s Baltimore where the ’50s are
“so out” and change is in the air. Hairspray is
a blockbuster winner with laughter, romance,
and deliriously tuneful songs. Queen-sized
teen Tracy Turnblad, who has all the right
moves, turns her passion for dancing into
a spot on the local TV dance program.
Transformed into an overnight teen celebrity,
Tracy teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two
about integration and fair play. Watch as a
larger-than-life adolescent vanquishes the
reigning princess and her conniving mother,
singing and dancing her way to her true love —
all without mussing her perfectly coiffed hair.
Those who sign up from The Winslow are
scheduled to enjoy lunch and watch Hairspray
at The Candlelight Dinner Playhouse on
Sunday, February 8th, at 12:00pm.
On Thursday, February 12th, at 11:30 am,
the ladies who are signed up will head to Rare
in Old Town Fort Collins.
Men’s Lunch: Chili’s
Attention men of The
Winslow! Sign up for
good food and good
conversation. The men
of The Winslow, including Jimmie, our
Maintenance Supervisor, and Dustin Dreith,
Wait Staff Supervisor, will enjoy lunch at Chili’s
off of College Avenue.
The van will leave The Winslow at 11:30am
on Wednesday, February 18th, at 11:30am.
Hope you can join us!
