LTC Christopher J. McElveen
JCWS Military Faculty
LTC McElveen is currently serving as Military Faculty at the Joint and Combined Warfighting School of the National
Defense University’s Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. The mission of the Joint Forces Staff College is to
educate national security professionals to plan and execute operational-level joint, multinational, and interagency
operations to instill a primary commitment to joint, multinational, and interagency teamwork, attitudes, and
perspectives. He has over 22 years of military service with three years of experience as a joint officer. His duty
assignments include over three years of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
LTC McElveen is a native of Kingstree, South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics-Business
Administration from Benedict College, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Webster University, and is
currently a doctoral student for the Doctor of Strategic Leadership from the School of Business & Leadership at Regent
University. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate of Benedict College and the University of South Carolina Army ROTC
program.
LTC McElveen’s service to his country on active duty at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels include a variety of
leadership and staff positions in South Korea; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Irwin, California; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas;
Fort Monroe, Virginia; Kuwait; and Iraq. He successfully served as a Battalion Commander and completed a joint tour
with Joint Task Force North, U.S. Northern Command at Fort Bliss, Texas. Additionally, he served as an Assistant
Professor of Military Science with Presbyterian College, Newberry College, and Lander University, in South Carolina.
LTC McElveen’s military education include graduation from the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses,
the U.S. Army Junior Maintenance Officer Course, the Combined Arms Services Staff School, the U.S. Army Command
and General Staff College, the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, ADA Airspace Coordination Digital Course,
Advanced Military Transition Team, and the U.S. Army Airborne and Pathfinder Schools.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious
Service Medal (5 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Joint Military Unit Award, the Army Commendation
Medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the President Unit Citation Navy Medal, the National Defense
Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the
Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Pathfinder
Badge.
